The times, they are a-changin'...

Now that BGWFans has made its official, respectful, pleasant, statement wishing Mr. Lum all the best at SeaWorld San Antonio and this thread has progressed to the third page, it's time to give my personal honest perspective on this situation:

In the last couple years, a lot of pressure has been put on BGW to get their act together—from both inside and outside the company. Over the last year, a lot of important players in the 2012-era Busch Gardens Williamsburg circus have left and been replaced. Their ringleader, Mr. Lum, was one of the few remaining hold-outs. Recently, as far as I can tell, his park has been changed around him and even despite him. With the bulk of his performers scattered, it was only a matter of time before the ringleader himself packed his bags as well.

As far as I can tell, this wasn't a promotion—just a natural response to the shifting tides. With so many new faces in the orchestra, it really is time for a new conductor. The situation we're faced with right now—the uncertainty over who will fill Carl Lum's shoes—is an uncomfortable one. I honestly predict we'll be in a much better place on the other side though.

Oh, one last thing. On the off-chance that Mr. Lum somehow ends up seeing this post, I have a long-overdue comment to make:

Mr. Lum: I really appreciated what you said about BGWFans's content and my personal ethics a few years ago to a totally uninvolved third party. Assuming you believed the lies you told to be fact, I can see why you were never an effective leader. A horse wearing blinders can't steer a carriage. A coach needs a chauffeur—a driver who can survey and acknowledge his or her surroundings—a pilot who can plan and adjust in order to maneuver through the landscapes he or she encounters. Your comments back then told me, without a shadow of a doubt, that you were not that driver, but instead the blinded horse pulling the out of control carriage. I truly do wish you all the best, but ever since your unprovoked personal attack against me, I have never been able to respect you.

Anyway, onward to better days.

He traded a park presidency within a corporation, for another park's presidency within the same corporation. I'm seeing neither promotion, nor demotion. I'm seeing same exact job, different place.

With a probable multi-million dollar bonus

What did he say?

Carl got a piece of his favorite (I'm being sarcastic) ride (Mach Tower) as a going away present.

The tower fell as usual, but one time the brakes failed. That was during testing, and it left a hole in the ground according to employees I talked to.

The brakes didn't fail—it is actually impossible for them to fail. What happened was that during initial testing the deceleration plates weren't installed properly. The deceleration plates take over after the magnetic breaks slow the ride to nearly a complete stop. This caused the ride carriage to fall off the mag-brakes directly to the ground a few feet below. This seriously damaged the ride vehicle, caused some aggregate damage below the ride, and significantly delayed the opening of the attraction.

Did anyone else see Carl in the park this weekend? I saw him there on Saturday and had about a 2 minute conversation with him. I was kinda of surprised to see him but had a nice conversation. He was walking around with a younger guy and we talked the marketing and they both mentioned they wanted to be more transparent with the fans and the public.

I saw someone that I thought was him and I thought "That can't be him. He's in San Antonio now."
