We just heard that Mark Pauls, Vice President of Operations, will be the "interim leader."
I think we are missing something...is he like literally leaving this year or for the rest of the 2016 season? Why would they put him in the project 2017 teasers if he was leaving I mean surely he would have known he was leaving
I do not recall seeing him in any of the teasers. Can you link the one you saw him in. I believe he is already in Texas. Also didn't nic mention his replacement?
Mark certainly knows the Williamsburg operation as well as anyone anywhere, been there since mid 80's.
Considering how long he has been mirroring GM's, he might be able to be one himself.
Someone educate me: aside from having the parent company's name, how does SeaWorld of Texas represent upward mobility from Busch Gardens Williamsburg?
I don't think it's attendance. Is it revenue? Is it the challenge of leading a park with the SeaWorld brand in today's climate? Are the Busch parks seen as an automatic step below any SeaWorld park within the chain?

I think you are reading to much into it. However the other way to look at it is Carl moved up when he took over as BGW president and that the person who fills that roll next would likely be someone moving up from a lower posion to a park president posion.
I'm assuming he's going there to help pull that park into the black. BGW has flourished in the last few years in no small part due to his stewardship. He'll do the same for SA Sea World.
Rumor has it that Carl's relocation is less of a promotion and more of an escape.

I don't feel entirely comfortable discussing this topic, but since debate has continued, I want to point out that generally when someone leaves an organization, people say nice things. New jobs tend to be described as "new opportunities" for "growth," "promotion," etc, regardless of whether the person quit, was promoted, or got pushed out.
Carl would have had to done obvious and extensive damage to the park for anyone to publicly say anything negative.
I read the article as normal, meaningless fluff. I would strongly recommend against drawing any conclusions from a employee newsletter.

He traded a park presidency within a corporation, for another park's presidency within the same corporation. I'm seeing neither promotion, nor demotion. I'm seeing same exact job, different place.
I would say the park with the larger operating budget would be the more prestigious job, which is probably the Sea World parks, given the cost of caring for the animals. So, promotion.
