Just left BGW. I can verify the surcharge is being added to the tax. I bought a beer with stein club membership. The old beer rate was $5 and 0.55 cents tax. The 5% surcharge should have added 0.25 cents to the $5 beer bringing the total to $5.80. Nope! New price....$5.83! The 3 cents is the surcharge on the 55 cents tax. The receipts are now printing a "note" that says something to the effect of "The surcharge of 5% is added to cover operational costs".
If they are concerned about covering operational costs, perhaps they should use recycled register receipts for toilet paper?

Just a very small nit-pick here but the total is actually just including the surcharge in the taxable amount, as the surcharge isn't actually any sort of legal thing and thus just gets calculated in as part of the sale. 5.00+.25 surcharge, 5.25*1.11=5.8275 after tax.

I heard BGW was bringing this costumed character back, but they've renamed him Sir Charge.
Seen this article and it's not surprising that more and more places are now adding surcharges to their prices which was inevitable.

After noticing a change last week, one theme park is under fire again for secretly adding a surcharge to all items.
I was getting ready to comment on that, but before I was checking here to see if anyone had seen it first. While Inside the Magic has been a bit (ok a lot) over the top with their headlines, this one does make sense.The surcharge has gotten some new attention.

I feel like it's a stretch to say Inside the Magic ever reports on anything. I sorta think the fact that they picked it up actually weakens our case.

That's really what I was going for but I guess I didn't really articulate that specific point. The 5% surcharge on merchandise has been implemented at BGW.
I had heard that we had a week, until we could expect to see it, but it was applied to my purchases from the Emporium last night. In a minor improvement over the dining surcharge, there was a prominently displayed notification at the cash register.

Might be a dumb question but is the surcharge applied to beer and mixed drinks? or just food items?
It looks like the 5% surcharge applies to everything in the park now. Before it was just on food and drink purchases. Now it appears that merchandise is also included.
