I wonder how long this false "no alcohol at Herschend properties, no exceptions" rumor will live.

Let's see, I first heard the false "People fell out of King Kobra" rumor in 1987...
Don't think i ever said no exceptions. It is very clear that Herschend does have an aversion to it.

We were leaving the park about 8:30 Sunday and saw police streaming in. We assumed they were there because of the Alpengeist fight. We'd been in the merch kiosk next to Alpengeist (which has a better selection of Sesame Street stuff at the moment than Forest of Fun does, but that's probably a different post...) and all heck broke loose: people running from the Alpengeist line, lots and lots of shouting, etc. A teenage kid ran up to the merch kiosk and asked them to call security. He said about 10 guys had jumped another guy and it was spilling into fights up and down the line. Another guy said he heard someone say "He's got my money!" and then the fight started. Security was called, but the only person I saw heading that way was a medic, and he was walking pretty slow.

This is so sad. Busch Gardens was always part of our family summer vacations, I started bringing my kids there before they could walk. I sent my youngest (who is nearly 26 years old now) that tik tok video of the fight in the Griffon queue. Her reply to me:

"I feel like Busch gardens was always classier than your average theme park... not trashy like great adventure. So that video angered me that much more"

Covid has prevented us from visiting in far too long, I let our memberships lapse, but I was seriously considering HoS this Oct due to the new houses. Now I'm just not so sure anymore. 😥

I would not let that deter me from visiting yet. Sure, it is very disappointing that this happened, but it is not like there would be brawls all over the place frequently.

I would highly recommend to pick one of the less busy days though, if that is an option.

We are 6+ hours away, so we'd usually spend 3 nights there and go to the park from rope drop to close. I actually enjoyed the Thursday night HoS sessions since it was so much less crowded. Quick Queues for Fri &/or Sat were a necessity. That said, Covid is obviously a huge factor in the decision as well. I really want to see the Poe house. Will just have to play it by ear.

True, you didn't say no exceptions. You imagined the scenario in which BGW, under Herschend ownership specifically, wouldn't get such an exception and therefore would stop selling beer altogether. And that made me (and others, clearly) wonder whether you knew about or remembered Kentucky Kingdom's situation, because from your post it seemed you didn't. 🤷‍♂️

That whole thing plays in the same sandbox as the recurring suggestion that Herschend requires no-alcohol policies at all their parks, with no exceptions. Not surprising that it received a similar response.

Im not trying to get into a pissing match here but i didnt imagine any such thing. What I did think is that a park that is founded and focuses heavily on alcohol sales might not be the most attractive prospect for such a company and should they ever take up the chain, the frequent focus of sales and events revolving around alcohol would very likely change.

Its one thing to allow alcohol and another to feature it.

Man, I remember being 7 in 2013, and being too scared to ride Verbolten. Now it's one of my favorite rides. I feel like Busch is declining in quality, not saying that it's a bad park, it's still great. I've just noticed a significant decline. I feel as if the fight just put it down another notch. Busch is a role model for parks, and this fight surely doesn't help that image.

FWIW stuff like this feels up everywhere. Will be interesting to see crime reports.
My son is attending BGW camp this week, and I have been popping into the park for an hour each day before pickup to ride a coaster or two and also collect HOS quick queue passes. My observation is the park certainly has more of a Six Flags feel these days, and the fights later in the day are not surprising. Think this is due to a combination of ride ops newbies, Groupon deals, and pent up demand to be out and about. (If anything, it is loyal pass members like us that should be the most pissed off about things like Pantheon, Ice Breaker, and Gwazi, yet we know how to behave!) It's unfortunate, and I think the only way to avoid it is arriving for rope drop and getting out of there a few hours later.

Ive been popping in daily grabbing the HOS queues....its completely stupid of them to make you pring a card then walk it into the Emporium to exchange it for another card.....what a waste of materials. If the want to validate it some how to make sure youentered the park they could just have some special design hole punch for them or something.
Anyhow....HOS this season is going to be a legit war zone. The Terror-tories are going to be more realistic than ever....lets just hope theres no real blood.

Agreed on the hassle and waste of paper to get HOS quick queue. I get that they are trying to make me spend money, but they would have more success if I had to do the paper swap at Grogan's.

They do not even validate that you entered the park. I just gave them a stack of vouchers for the whole family, they counted them and gave me a stack of tickets, without asking where the people are. I definitely did not have my whole family in the store.

I went last week Thursday and printed the vouchers without reading them, assuming they are the actual tickets. Just learned when I came back 2 days later that I should have brought them to the Emporium. Kind of irritated that I wasted a whole set of these.
Going to see if they still accept them next time I drive down there.

No. HOS is historically the roughest season at BGW.

I've already said something about this in another thread this year, but I'm going to reiterate it again: Crowds have been rougher this year than I've ever seen at BGW. People are rude, obnoxious, pushy, loud, and angry. People's respect/concern about the park and its other patrons seems to be at an all time low. Another purely anecdotal observation: the ratio of families with kids vs groups of young adults seems to be massively out of wack this year compared to previous years as well. It looks a lot more like a Six Flags park than a Universal park visitation party makeup-wise.

Making things even worse, security is stretched INCREDIBLY thin right now. There are NO WHERE NEAR enough uniformed security folks in the VA SEAS parks right now. This year I can often walk a whole loop of BGW without seeing a single security person. That's a PROBLEM.

Crowds are large and rowdy already this year. Howl-O-Scream is going to be a shit show if BGW doesn't step up their security game BIG TIME.
Yeah, I'm definitely going to do my couple HOS trips EARLY in the season because of this. It's really horrendous.
