I've always loved that illustration of the "Alpengeist" monster/ghost/thingy. I've always wondered why there is no mention or picture of the monster itself to be found anywhere in the ride's queue. There's plenty of cool, quirky ski props, but there is pretty much no reference to the beast outside of a few T-shirts and old lunch boxes. Weird...
 
^The monster is in the video in the queue line. Other than that, he is not mentioned. I think they wanted it to look like a regular ski resort, then have the monster take control of you. :)
 
He is in the Queue video though that is rarely seen unless you have to wait in the switchbacks. I haven't waited in the switchbacks in years, its possible its gone entirely. I know with DarKastle the switched the switchback queue video to QQ ads and CT ads. They used to play a biographical video of the real King Ludwig.
 
Huh. I waited in the switchbacks last week, and the video was still there. But it is surrounded by about 5 minutes of ads.
 
I have not seen that map since 2007. My mom can confirm as well since she spends a lot of time in that area whenever we visit.

Don't know if I was riding in a BIG seat or not. From a college trip back in 1997 the weekend Alpie opened. Fun fun!! :cool:

Apocalypse at Six Flags America is the oldest B&M built and it was just moved to the park. I imagine it will have a long life at that park. I see Alpengeist getting the new Banshee Trains well before it is ever removed. That is just my two cents.
 
I was just checking out the new B&M inverted coaster restraints on some pictures of Banshee at KI. They look pretty slick! I wonder if they designed them to work as a bolt-on replacement for older trains? Would be sweet to see them come to Alpengeist! (they appear to have quite a bit more space for lateral head movement)
 
Wait and see how they work at Kings Island, first. Those "vest" style restraints were first used on Cedar Point's Gatekeeper and became quite infamous for being extremely, uncomfortably tight. They'd literally squeeze the wind out of you on each hill or inversion. When I rode, I thought it was just me until one of my friends mentioned it, then my whole group chimed in about how miserable they were... and these weren't park enthusiasts privy to manufacturers and restraint styles.

Cedar Point even tweeted that they heard of the issue and were looking into it. Supposedly B&M found what was causing them to tighten too severely and fixed it on a few key seats (likely with the rest following suit this off-season) but make sure it works out well on Banshee before you wish them on Alpengeist. ;)

Especially with all those huge inversions, I wouldn't want a vest bolted against me and squeezing the air out of me. And Alpengeist, in my opinion, doesn't have the huge headbanging problem some B&M Inverts have so I don't think it's a change that's direly needed as it might be elsewhere, but if they've fixed that issue, I'm all for it. More freedom is always good.
