After seeing the Canada's Wonderland Illumination show, I was absolutely stunned. I'm really, really excited for these fountain renovations. Busch Gardens has got another thing coming for them with this show.

I just got home and saw the update, I'm very impressed. I was hoping that they were going to paint the International Street buildings and I can't wait to see and ride Rebel Yell at night.

Also Kings Dominion is asking for anyone to send in a video of themselves sharing a memory of the park that is :30 - :90 long. These videos can be sent to social@kingsdominion.com and they want them by March 21st.

Don't forget that they're still excepting photos for the in-park mosaic and those are due by March 31st.

It did look as if the rails on Rebel Yell were Blue. I wonder if they're doing a whole paint job, or are they just painting the rails? I think they certainly have enough time before opening to do a complete paint job, but I dunno. Either way, I'm very excited for the red and blue rails!

I'm assuming a full repaint may be in the works for 2015 (part 2 of the celebration). Obviously the coaster didn't receive one this year, but I would hope with their goal of sprucing up the look of everything that they'd give Rebel Yell some love.

The latest update is now up!

http://kdfans.com/2014/march-11th/

It is the same photos, but I added some comparison shots to Canada's Wonderland fountain setup. Also go to the bottom for a bit of a tease ;)

It says "we will be announcing something very soon". I wonder if 'very soon' means 2 hours or 2 weeks.

It does look like the handrails have been painted a dark color (blue, if the park is keeping to the old paint scheme). If you look closely at the far hand rail, near the top of the first hill, you can see the transition from the dark color to a light color (primer?).

I am not sure at this point if the park is continuing with the paint job this year by painting the running track a dark fire engine red/dark apple red; and the rest of the superstructure white. They still have 3 1/2 weeks before they open to get it the paint job completed (if that is what the park is planning on doing). Even if they don't get the whole ride painted by opening day, they can finish the job during the weekdays in April.

I would think the park would try to finish painting the handrails and running track before they get into the initial ride testing phase for the season. Painting the rest of the superstructure would not greatly impact the preseason ride testing.

Again, I have no idea if the park is planning on painting the whole ride this season or doing part of the Rebel Yell this year and the rest in 2015.

Thanks for all the interesting speculation mwhinva, but I would imagine that if KD were repainting Rebel Yell this year, they would have announced it like they announced Anaconda's repaint. "Improvements coming to Rebel Yell" sounds much more marketable than "Oh yeah, we repainted Rebel Yell. Check it out tomorrow, April 5!" I'm still holding out for 2015. The ride desperately needs some fresh paint.

This was brought to my attention as the possible new show in the Action Theater.

Based on this company's library of films, this is the same company that KD contracted with to show the movie "Haunted House" during the last 2 years at Halloween Haunt.

Joe, there is no rule, that Kings Dominion has to abide by, to have to publicly state anything beforehand about they are doing within the park concerning improvements.

For example, the park painted the Shock-Wave coaster back in the 2011-2012 off season (teal/green). KD happened to post a picture on their Facebook page and stated something about "look at the new paint job on Shock-Wave". Course, most folks were not given any advance notice that the ride was being painted for the 2012 season. When the photo was posted, the paint job was already completed. Same with Dominator when it was re-painted during the 2012-2013 off-season. I believe the "other" KD fan site had an off-season park tour or interview, (Jan/Feb 2013 time-frame) with the PR manager about what was going on for the upcoming 2013 season; and they stated then that the coaster was being re-painted.

This is officially an "off-year" for Kings Dominion as far as rides/attractions/coasters go. But, for 2014, there is a massive general capital improvement project happening across the park. 50%-60% of Kings Dominion is being impacted to a certain extent. Management is tying this big overhaul to the parks 40th anniversary celebration. This years capital improvement project appears to be 4-5 times the size of general capital improvements the park normally receives during an "off year". I would not be surprised, when all is said and done, that the park spent 10 to 12 million dollars this year to refurbish the park; and that is not including the KD Campground renovations. And some of these capital improvement projects are multi-year (Volcano mountain, Carousel, etc.).

From the photo of the Rebel Yell, it appears that the handrails are being painted for 2014. That would make sense if you are attaching new light fixtures. You would want a coat of paint on the wood to seal it from water damage/rot before attaching the lighting.

The park did say on their Facebook page, (when showing a photo of the new Rebel Yell sign), that other improvements were coming to this coaster. Could a paint job be one of them?

Thanks mwhinva for that post. I completely forgot to post this but:

That's definitely true, and there is no argument there. However, considering the park announced Anaconda being repainted as "improvements to the ride" I would imagine they would try to similarly market the repainting of one of their most signature rides. One possibility, though, would be that they are repainting the ride in portions (it is rather massive, and I'm sure wooden coasters are a pain to paint) so perhaps we will see some fresh white being shown off in certain areas? I don't know. You can definitely tell in the picture that the ride wasn't completely repainted.

Even the things they have announced will still surprise us. Some of the things they have told us about, but they haven't put out any pictures regarding the construction to improvements. As you may have noticed we haven't seen any pictures of the Volcano improvements except for the beginnings of it. And there's things you won't be able to experience until opening day, like The Singing Mushrooms, The new fountains, The chaser lights, etc. so even if they have announced everything, trust me you'll still be surprised. But I wouldn't doubt it at all that they haven't announced a lot of things, after all they said this would be a celebration full of surprises.
