RE: New Globe Show for 2014

If you take a 90 minute Shakespeare play and condense it to 20 minutes for a theme park crowd, you're gonna have a bad time.

BGW seems to try to hit 30 minutes for their larger productions but I see no reason why they can't do 45 minutes for a real stage show. For example, I'm pretty sure the general public would be more than happy if an additional 10 or so minutes was tacked onto Celtic Fyre. If it's good, no one is going to complain about getting more.

Check these out! And anything Sherlock Holmes.. anything... I swear I would buy it all.

Very true, it would be absolutely horrifying.

However, I feel like the park wouldn't do it to a grand extent. In my opinion, if they altered the theme to stay with the theme of the show (British-Invasion-esque), it would be more a multitude of small changes. Still dreadful, but something more along the lines of replacing the newsletters in Big Ben with posters advertising the invasion/concert, or changing a few names of the stores.

I would like to think they would have the sense not to ruin England, it being such an icon. Then again, TIO was a pretty large icon as well.

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

^So I'm guessing the 16th century Europe theme is out? :p

One word: Paint.

That's one of those drastic changes I would hope to the heavens they wouldn't do. But I can (sadly) easily see that happening, as it did to Oktoberfest's blandness.

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

I think we should look to France and how they updated the area as an example of what works.

There was craftsmanship and quality to the trellis and vineyard seating area. It is simply gorgeous.

Every area of the park at some time has to be updated and I think this should be used as "what to do." As much as I LOVE the past of BGW, I also love the new renovations in the Emporium for example.

Updating anything does not have to be cheesy and run-of-the-mill. If good planning and people who really care are at the helm- England could be updated in a very great way.

I understand everyone's nervousness. Banbury is iconic- the very first thing people see entering the park. If you look back to pictures from 1975, I would say that it is the least changed of all the Hamlets.

With that said.. I think whoever would be "updating that" understands this and would be very careful to keep it traditional and yet, slightly modern. Just like London.

If not.. well.. I can imagine people will have much to talk about.

By the way, if I had tons of money and the means to add it.. I would ad 221b Baker Street and have Sherlock Holmes roaming around.

But I digress. Just so you guys see what I am talking about.. there is a balance of old and new. Look at the Old Bell Tavern in London. I adored London in every way. This was a great place to stop and is an icon of old-world yet current London style:

(By the way- this is what I would really like to see Squires look like.. boy would I ever! Two Stories- seating area up top- mini gift shop- and real british food. Traditional Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash.. ales)

By the way- this is a traditional English Breakfast. I ate this several times in London. So good. Now- maybe Squires would have this in the morning. :D I would be soooo happy.

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

Interesting today, there was a fire in the administrations building yet Scott's office was not harmed :p

But honestly, I think they are trying to decided what to do with England still. The Emporium refresh and Union Jax were added at the same time and yet have very different themes so to speak. I think if more people visit the Emporium then they will eventually take that route. Honestly, I am scared that they will paint all of Banbury Cross like the inside of Union Jax. It would be way too bright and different.

Personally if they can update England like France, then I won't be too upset.

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

Here is the latest bit I heard, turns out the ENTIRE inside of the Globe will be gutted and remodeled. So this isn't just a reconfigured stage and lighting, this means all new seating, flooring, walls, etc.
BTW, I think we can call this news rather than rumor since the park has announced Pirates removal.

EDIT:
With that said, has the Globe's inside ever been remodeled before or has the inside basically stayed the same since day 1?

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

Union Jax is not connected to the Globe in any fashion. There is a pathway between them which is or the exits from the Globe. That pathway is also very awkward and probably not best to connect them.

Adventure Photo is connected to the Globe though. However it is the Globe Theater and I expect it to be a theater. I hate How Abbeystone lost a lobby. Basically it is just another snack stand. Honestly, it si okay to have a small something in the lobby, but at least still use the lobby as the main entrance.

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

For some reason my post above party rocker disappeared. I probably hit the delete button by accident. It happens.

Anyway, what I mentioned before was a neat idea of using the space between union jax and the Globe as a combined area for a brutish pub/ museum much like the images I sent in before.

Nothing is more iconic to BGW's England than the lovely Globe theater and the Big Ben; so why not expand it. If there was a much larger lobby that filtered into the new building between the Globe and Union Jax, there could be room to have a gift shop and pub.

My theory came in how to increase the visibility of Union Jax. It is a very cool store and no one sees it until leaving the park. However, if a pub was attached to it- people may "hang around" in the area more and the "Pop culture/ music" merch would fit nicely.

The expanded lobby/ pub could also feature glass cases and a history of the park kind of thing, where a TV with a little video playing the history of the park is inside.

The Globe just sits there when there are no shows and the "theater would be closed" but the lobby remains open with entrance to the pub- with historical displays- and a connecting opening to the Union Jax store.

It is a possibility. Otherwise, if that is way out of line in the realm of concepts- a small stage could be added next to Union Jax and a band with Brisitsh music plays nearby.

I would still like to see CD's being sold of the park music, posters of the cast and crew of the shows (that guests can have signed), a "History book- complete with a DVD of the history of Busch gardens" and nostalgic merchandise.

I've sent these ideas over many years- probably back six years or more ago.. the original concept was to use the old Wilkomen Haus as a history museum and shop. But perhaps in England would be better.

Who knows.. just batting some ideas around and combining a bunch of stuff I always wanted in a different way.

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

The only problem I have with your concept Nora is I would hate for England to be engulfed in Union Jax theme and style and my worry is that if you draw more attention to the store it will do better giving the park false hope for this store and convert the rest of England to follow suit.

Union Jax is fine as its own store, but if any of that leaks into England, we may have some horrifying problems. More horrifying than Root and Entwined put together.

BTW, the British Flag is only referred to as the Union Jax when used upon a ship at sea.

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

Sorry- it was a typo. Jax- jacks... still..

I am not talking about making the store expanded.. I am talking about using the space between to add a British style pub and to house a "museum" ish feel to the decor. Like sitting in a little pub full of Busch Gardens memorabilia and history. I've already posted the photo of the old London pub above. I think with themeing like that- how could you go wrong as quality.

Union Jacks is the new pop-culture English store that I would love to see it carry stuff from Downton Abbey, Dr. Who, Monty Python, Sherlock, and so forth. The pub would be "old world" style and house a connection to the lobby of the globe- providing a beverage snack stand and possibly a "history of Busch Gardens" aspect as decor.

I think it is a good idea... but the cost would be astronomical. But this is just speaking our ideas- not whether or not they could happen. It is just fun to say an idea out loud and let it fall on whoever cares to listen.

RE: New Globe Show for 2014

I think this idea is awesome! As far as ideas go I'm totally on board! As far as logistics go, the park wouldn't want to draw people back into England as the crowds would be a nightmare. At least now everyone is always moving in the same direction. Also replacing a kiddy ride with a pub seems a little unfair to the kids
