The park plans on announcing the resort hotel this September and I think we can expect to see some work going on over the off season. Also, a train station in Germany has had huge debate and it is likely to see something spring up over in that area as well.

Other than the start of their new 5-yr. plan, expect small little things happen, just nothing super major.

Has this been confirmed (The Sept announcement)?

Assuming the planned resort opens in 2013, anyone know a specific time frame that the park plans to open it up to guests (like late Spring, early summer)? Or is that still under wraps at the moment?

I'd predict that we see an announcement about the resort come in September. Whether it opens in 2013 or 2014 is anyone's guess right now.

There is no way it opens in 2013. A resort takes a long time to build. 2014 is when it is opening.

They may start opening the resort in stages in 2013, but definitely not the entire thing for next year

you'd be surprised how fast a private sourced contract can go up...not saying you're projected timeframe is incorrect, but a resort can be built in a year.

Built in a year yes. But as of right now with not all the permits in and it already being late March I doubt they would even start construction till the fall at the earliest so a year later would be the fall. Not really the time you want to open something like that so that leaves you with 2014. And a resort wouldn't open in phases. It's kind of a one time deal opening. You don't want guests seeing an unfinished product.

Oh no you say?http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/03/opening-dates-now-set-for-disneys-art-of-animation-resort-at-walt-disney-world-resort/The biggest theme park company in the world is doing it with their newest resort...so as long as the resort is big enough...it could open in phases.
A year is not completely out of the question. It depends on how big it is, when the permits are filed, etc. I could definitely see them doing the opening in phases, much like what they've done with different hotels. They build it in wings, so you can completely have the main building done, and then expand the wings as needed. Ever wonder why all hotels are built pretty much like boxes? You should really walk around the Loewes hotels at Universal.

Until there is any visible movement on this in the way of permits or an announcement, any talk of a possible timeline is pretty much moot...

Dude....you're on a fansite. Talk of anything is not only viable, but completely possible. Did lack of permits and an announcement stop this site from talking, posting and digging for information about Verbolten?

I don't care about the strobes- it's the light-up LNM and the fog that I want back.

I had a great rapport with the maintenaince crew for Lochness years ago. From what I have been told, those effects were removed years ago because half the time the main effect did not work. Correct me if I am wrong, but I have been told the head of Nessie moved slightly back and forth (toward and away from the train), as a visual effect. To my knowledge, those effects were broken down and placed inside the station for decorations for a couple seasons, then were trashed.

Creating new ones wouldn't be hard, but I'm sure it wasn't a cost effective effect, no matter how cool it was.

I do agree with you though. I would kill to bring that effect back. I remember it from when I was little and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

Unfortunately, many theme parks fall into a "funk" and remove some of the coolest effects (or just refuse to fix them). Take Jurassic Park River Adventure (Islands of Adventure) for example. You'll see most of the effects when you ride it, but guaranteed you won't see the "eye" effect right before you go up the lift. In the last three years, I have only heard of it working once, and I have only seen it working once. Effects stop working all the time and parks either fail to fix them or just remove them. Another great example would be Dudley Do Right Ripsaw Falls (also IOA). The exploding shack hasn't worked for years, up until right before Potter opened. When they refurbed the ride, they fixed the effect. I could go on and on about effects at Islands and possibly Studios that don't work anymore because Universal is known for dragging their feet on fixing effects. I'm sure if I actually sat down and thought about it, I could find a few others outside the Universal brand, specifically here in Florida.

I didn't say the resort shouldn't be a topic, I'm saying it's ludicrous to talk about a timeline when we don't even know the scope of the resort we're allegedly getting; it's putting the cart before the horse. "Talk, post and dig for information" about what's being built, and then a timeline will be a lot easier to formulate.

Chill. :)

For those who never experienced the full effects, has anyone ever seen pictures of the Nessie head?

This TPR video has the cave with strobe and Nessie on the wall.

Six Flags Great Adventure had the best themeing for their Batman: The Ride, actual junk! They didn't need to clean it, fix it or do anything! It. just. sat. there. and. rotted. To the point where they removed it even though it fit the ghetto Gotham theme like a glove. (They also had a cop car and a broken fire hydrant but those got removed due to the flash pass line :L)

That's right B-Mac they were good at theming their rides. It starts with a working display and sometimes it stops working or it's remove.
