NOOOOOOOOOOO. When did it close? My family and I are going next week and that was my Dad's favorite secret little hangout (it wasn't that secret but we humored him in thinking he discovered it). I was at BG last year and just didn't pay attention to that area, but now that I have a 1-year old son, I will be and was looking forward to grabbing a cone there!

If you’re looking for ice cream, try Josephine’s in France. The seating area behind it is usually fairly quiet.
Hasn't Josephine's been closed as well? The week I was there, it wasn't opened at all. When we asked an employee at Griffon, they said it has been closed all season and they weren't sure if it was even opening this year. Said Festa was the only place that had ice cream right now.

Caution- the festa icecream was absolutely abhorrent when I had it about a month ago

If it is still being used, albeit in a limited capacity, should it not deserve to be categorized as "existing" instead of defunct?

We'd say Wilkommenhaus is being used to serve beer right now. Wilkommenhaus Eisdiele was, specifically, the ice cream shop previously operated inside Wilkommenhaus Eisdiele. If a new ice cream shop opened in the same place we'd treat it as a reopening or a rebrand if it received a new name. If a different eatery opened up in its place we'd make a new thread for it.

Little bit of history from an old-timer. When BGW first opened in 1975 the Wilkommenhaus is where the free beer was served before there was ever a Hospitality Center and monorail. I can't help but wonder if this is an early plan to bring back an old tradition for the 50th anniversary in 2 years.

For the record, the monorail opened with the park and the hospitality center predated the park.

Neat that history has aligned like that, but I'm 95% sure the location is happenstance. BGW hasn't known what to do with Wilkommenhaus in a decade+ now and they needed a new venue for their free beer since Grogan's Grill is used for seasonal events now.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Maybe I'll pour one out for the ice cream shoppe while drinking a beer on those hallowed grounds.
