The first impression guests coming to Great Adventure got was the Lion Sign which used to stand on Route 537 at the park entrance road. The fiberglass lion holding the metal banner with the Great Adventure name was the only hint of the magical place that was in the woods just beyond.
The sign was replaced with the Six Flags Great Adventure rainbow sign in the late 1970's and the Lion Sign was moved into the Safari Hospitality Area where it remained for many years.
In 1995 the sign was moved to the Safari Entrance plaza and the Great Adventure letters were removed, replaced with the Six Flags Wild Safari name.
Unfortunately the fiberglass lion was damaged beyond repair when the Safari Entrance was being re-routed.
