Aside from the invasive Coke advertisements (specifically that god-awful one on the path next to Griffon) I didn't have any issue with Summer Nights. I honestly preferred it to the other attempts the park has made as of late.

From past experience, I would say Tampa's Summer event is better. Until this year, all they had was a nightly showing of Kinetix (now gone), followed by fireworks, along with a few DJ booths.
This year, Tampa followed a similar formula to Williamsburg. BGT has far more blank space than BGW, which they used to their advantage to create non-intrusive F&W-style kiosks. Unlike F&W at BGT, the kiosks for Summer Nights were huge, as they included live entertainment spaces for each culture portrayed.
Due to the lack of ambiguously-themed areas at Williamsburg, they couldn't do that as easily. In Tampa, the remaining themed areas stay mostly the same. You can even ride Cobra's Curse without having the ambiance compromised. That's especially great for a ride that is 90% ambiance.

For what it is worth, I found Tampa’s Summer Nights to be really unpleasant. My clearest memories are of mobs of children blocking paths during a hoopla hoop competition, and people singing painfully off-key during Kinetix. Oh, and the pre-show cheerleaders were terrifying.
I'd be happy if they just stayed open as late as they used to many years ago. Maybe an evening event is exactly the vector to achieve that.
If the park had an evening performance in each hamlet that was as impressive yet intimate a spectacle as Giardino Magico was ~5 years ago in Italy, then I think BGW could have a winner.
Maybe couple the hamlet-specific performances with Nightscape style environments along pathways and down by the Rhine. Lots of people would stay for that.
As much as I like fireworks, you can see them in a great many places -- often for free. And sightlines in multiple areas of the park were far from perfect.
At least stick the Statue of Liberty in France... what did it have to do with Italy? Still stuck on that.
An evening event at BGW should be accessible and beautiful. Doesn't have to cost the park a fortune.
