The off-ride rendering shows the third launch ending just a short distance above the ground. The construction photos show that the third launch actually goes to roughly the third 'level' of crossbracing in the tower. The 100mph top speed would have been believable if the third launch stopped barely off the ground, but if the train is still accelerating ~100 feet off of the ground, I call bogus on the announced top speed. That much kinetic energy, that far off of the ground would send the trains into the top bumper.

Unless there are trim brakes up there somewhere...

They're probably not using every stator at full tilt. LSM rides are fancy enough to keep a specific launch profile, I'd imagine this one will send all the trains up roughly to the same spot in the tower. There's also the large battery array (not mentioned in today's promo but was discussed previously) that will power the ride, so they could have the longer bank of stators to help with power recovery.

I agree it's a bit fishy. I think the more likely case here is; since the inverted launch gets it up to 80mph, the height difference dropping from the exit of the stall to the start of the third launch will generate most of that additional 20mph. Therefore I think the third launch will just graze the 100mph top speed, but it effectively cannot sustain that speed through the end of the launch track for the reason you stated. It'd end up blowing through the bumper and probably end up on the Jersey Shore at that speed. I would wager at the end of the third launch track you're doing closer to 80mph, precisely calculated so it stalls out at the reliable point.

I think there will be a "last resort" magnetic brake fin at the very top, but the train should never reach that.

I wouldn't be too pessimistic re: scenic just yet based on the concept art and video. Given that Shoreline Pier didn't make it in at all, the mockup could be very dated.

In fact, I'd go so far as to speculate that the Bakunawa theme could be a pretty recent development. Hopefully that's another thing interviews will shed light on—was Phantom Spire actually intended to be used originally? When did the park decide to go with Bakunawa? There's a real chance that it happened recently enough to where the mockup was already done and the full scenic package for the ride simply hasn't even been fully designed/approved/signed for yet.
That rendering was probably an early NoLimits concept to see how everything would fit into the general area of the park.

Shoreline Pier was probably designed based on this concept first to account for it.

Just my guess.

I feel like it’s possible the launch fins only extend part of the way up the tower and the ones that go all the way to the vertical section are just brake fins

I can see both sides of the discussion.

Like if they just reused a rendering from pre Shoreline, that had to exist for at least a year now for planning purposes. So we’re that that cheap and/or lazy to not take that and add in? Or is there very little else planned for the ride and they felt this rendering was good enough?

But on the flip side, maybe they have a rendering with that, there’s some additional surprises coming with the ride that they don’t want those known - so instead of spending money on a rendering that is basically useless, they just used this one.

I feel like my personal opinion is unpopular but either show us it completed or just tease us with more to come.
 
I'll just wait for ElToro Ryan's video to explain to me how the train will recover itself from a failed launch with the extra staters like Falcons Flight.
 
The station.*could* utilize a comb shaped floor to allow the vehicles to enter and exit without interference or additional moving parts. Could be interesting if they decided.to go with a less standard floorless loading setup that takes advantage of the double station.

Cobras Curse is the only spinner I recall having controlled spinning and that is a completely different ride. If this has any form of that, it would be in the form of something similar to what you see on the free spins to induce additional rotation at some points, I haven't seen any evidence of that though. Assuming it's all freespin, I suspect fat thoosies will be getting a lot more time facing down at the top.
