The glitching isn’t even the worst part of the show — it’s the painfully generic, creatively bankrupt, out-of-the-box “demo mode” vibe of the show. It’s just a random collection of holiday shapes set to random Christmas pop songs.

I wish they’d make even the slightest attempt to give the show an interesting tone or even the loosest of themes. When the show isn’t running, Polar Pathway has an almost ethereal atmosphere between its haunting music and the gravitas of its light display. For me, it remains one of beautiful experiences at any theme park anywhere. But when the show comes on, it obliterates that atmosphere with its complete lack of inspiration and its trashy, unoriginal music and imagery.

Why not theme the show to the magic of the northern lights? Or use narration to tell some simple yet heartfelt story conveyed through simple images that appear on the screen? Dollywood used to have a show on their Christmas tree, conveyed through simple shapes and symbols, that told the story of a black bear cub discovering Christmas and illustrating the things he discovered along the way. It was cute and touching.

(Incidentally, as I reread this post before posting it, I realized the first sentence sounds like AI writing. I assure you, no AI was used in expressing my disdain for the laziness of this show. But then I got to thinking: BGW might as well use AI to come up with some better theme or story for this show. Even the most rudimentary AI slop would be better than the complete lack of effort they’re putting forth now.)

I remember the first time seeing the lights there. Yes, it had a bit of a surreal feeling to it. the surface area there is large enough to do a lot with it, especially if combined with some projection mapping.

The area is still beautiful as ever. But I saw the 8:15 show both Saturday and Sunday, and it still kinda sucks. They fixed the music by making it orchestral - so the shit transitions aren't as prominent, but the lights still suck. The front Parthenon area and the other pop-out on the right are still just dark through most of the show, the lagoon/waterfall still don't do anything in time with the show (why not?? They could have cool effects in the lagoon) and the light show that is there is still so bad. Just a bunch of flashing shapes. Same as the new tree show, just destroying something that was previously so great. Also, in regard to glitching, on Saturday it didn't glitch at all, except for a few strands of lights being dark, but on Sunday one very prominent strand of lights on one of the dark sections was stuck in rainbow colors, which kinda killed the vibe, and the show froze every few minutes. Not great.

Didn’t this show also have like 3 different shows that would rotate last year?
