As part of KD's 50th celebration, the "Gazillion Bubble Show" runs July 12th through August 3rd:
Bubble Show.jpg

I enjoy any use of the Kings Dominion Theater. And for the park's 50th, it was nice to see the theater (finally!) used for the Prizm: The Ultimate Laser Show. And shortly after it ended, another 3-weeks for this one. But alas, even with constant personal visits to the park, it was not until the show's 3rd running weekend here that I was actually able to see it.

Apparently no one at the park thought to realize, bubbles mixed with a sloping painted cement floor of the Kings Theater would be a poor combination, causing all sorts of issues when people would try and leave the theater after the show - where I've heard numerous reports of people falling trying to walk out, or trying to help get their kids get out.

I'm not sure what percentage of the show times were canceled due to this. And even after it was sort of resolved (more on this later), another "technical" issue arose, which led to more shows cancelled. But after so many personal visits to the park in attempt to see this show - either showing up to the park and seeing no show times posted outside the Theater (because the park can't/will not post them online), or when there were actually (supposed) show times on a day, and waiting outside the Theater (in the sun) for 10 minutes after the show was supposed to start, only to be told the show was cancelled - I "finally" got my chance to see it this weekend... where I must admit, it was worth the wait (kind of).

Now, in the show's 3rd weekend, stationed outside the Theater are warning signs:

And inside the Theater you can see their solution, which are little strips taped to the floor to provide 'traction' - provided you take special care to "only" step on the strips; where I can personally attest, stepping anywhere outside of them is not good:

Unfortunately the strips are not a permanent solution, where in the row behind me you can see what happens - where it seems they are only able to keep roughly half the theater's rows open:

But as for the show itself, I was rather impressed - where here are some photos, showing a variety of the different parts of the show:

So though the show is not quite as good as some of the shows I've seen in the Theater over the years, it's still very enjoyable (where I enjoyed it much more than Prizm: The Ultimate Laser Show, that preceded it here this summer).

Hopefully though the park learns from some of these operational issues, as since this was one of the brief 50th anniversary additions to the park, it would have been nice to enjoy it more, while it was at the park.

I really enjoyed myself, but part of that is because I have a two year old - so I'm seeing everything through his eyes now. I saw the full show once so far and half a show yesterday (Halfway through the show the entire park lost power due to storms). But there was definitely a lack of foresight on the park's behalf with how slick the floors would be. We got to the theater 15-20 minutes beforehand and there was a line formed outside. After about 5 or so minutes we were in the theater just to find that all of the "available" seats were taken. As @outhikn showed above, the grip tape would rip off the floor and the ushers would close the entire row down. So it seemed like there was less than 25% of the theater capacity available. I would guess, they can't just reapply or add new tape because the floor would need to be fully dry to reapply. I don't think there is a great solution now that the show is almost over, but if they bring it back, then they are going to need another solution. Even with the tape numerous people were falling.

How little of the seating is actually available for the show. This is 2 minutes before start and at capacity.

Did they limit the seating to make sure the audience is in the bubbles? Or is it just typical cost cutting so they didn’t have to prepare the floor in those aisles?

Anyway. The last 2 parts if this show the audience is blasted by bubbles with lighting effects id pretty amazing experience.

Also the high majority of the music is excellent

My understanding is the option they went with for none slip flooring was cheap and didn't stay down and they have been slowly losing seating because of it which fits as there are a random row here or there towards the back that is open

That makes sense. It was just taped down.

I'm attaching a video of the show I took today at 3pm. Working with a new camera and went out of focus a few times but was able to correct it pretty quick. Should have probably went with different settings too... Nonetheless, parts of it still look great on video.

I'd say the show is great in its entirety but gets really good after the 16:00 min mark. My personal favorite parts are at 24:30 all the way till to the end.

There were a few microphone issues with the show but they were resolved pretty quick. Overall, one of my favorite shows in the theatre in some time. Plenty better than Prizm earlier this season. Funny enough, I thought the "Lazer show" aspects of the bubble show was way better than Prizm too.

I'm hoping if they bring the show back next year they are better prepared for it. In the video I took, I was in the furthest back you could sit without sitting in the very last rows. The grip tape they were using was all kinds of messed up and it was indeed insanely slick when leaving.

This show looks fantastic. It's very unique as I have never seen anything quite like it. The closest thing I can think of is a much smaller scale version of what the blue man group does, but with bubbles. I wish more legacy SF parks had shows like this or heck shows in general... haha.

That actually looks surprisingly cool. That seems like the perfect kind of show for KD this day and age. A unique performance with high production value, and relatively inexpensive for the park since there aren’t a lot of performers and most of the show consists pre-programmed effects. And it beats trying to spin up a typical song-and-dance show, which isn’t just expensive but is always a losing battle with BGW down the road.
