It's happening.

156ft tall attraction. Festa Italia expansion. Confirmed.

More information will be added to this post as we get it out there.

EDIT by Shane as of 3:35PM on 10/10/2013:

I'm going to take a second to recap what we know for those that are just joining the discussion and do not want to dig through 26 pages of posts.

  • On 04/08/2013 Screamscape.com reported on a rumor that Gwazi's extra trains (A GCI Wooden Coaster at Busch Gardens Tampa) were being shipped off to Busch Gardens Williamsburg
  • On 08/10/2013 BGWFans.com received reports of balloon testing somewhere in the Greater Italian area of the park.
  • On 10/05/2013 the forum member Woodmaker reported that there were utility markings throughout the Festa Italia hamlet.
  • On 10/07/2013 the forum member Party Rocker found evidence of soil testing behind the San Marco Theater.
  • On the evening of 10/07/2013 Zachary found a permit filing for an "Expansion to the Festa Italia Hamlet"
  • On the evening of 10/08/2013 Zachary discovered that the permit had been renamed and confirmed that this would be a 2015 attraction.
  • On the morning of 10/09/2013 the Williamsburg-Yorktown Daily obtained the permit filing and published Exhibit 3 of the filing showing the location of the highest point of the ride.
  • In the afternoon of 10/09/2013 Shane obtained a full copy of the permit filing that provides the location of the highest point of the new ride.
  • In the evening of 10/09/2013, based on the information provided in the full permit Zachary speculated that it could only be a flat ride and provided a concept graphic of his theory on what the new attraction may look like.

Festa Italia expansion.

So, it's confirmed it's an expansion to Festa? Not a retheme? Darn, but I'm very anxious to see something great come out of this. I hope not too many trees become sacrificed...

RE: Project 2015: Festa Italia Renovation & New Major Attraction

Festa doesn't have many trees to begin with in the first place. However, one really good thing is Festa may no longer be just a dead end.

RE: Project 2014/2015: Festa Italia Expansion/Retheme & New Major Attraction

Updated the title to better reflect the status of everything. Working on a story.

Expansion doesn't mean there won't be retheming.

RE: Project 2014/2015: Festa Italia Expansion/Retheme & New Major Attraction

So now the guessing game of what's approx. 150 feet in a stock attraction begins. Of course a custom version of almost anything could be 150 feet tall. I saw those ground markings on Sunday when i was in the park. I wish I had noticed if they continued outside of the immediate area of Festa Italia. Or looked for flag markers in the grass on the other side of the train area. If surveyor crews were in the park doing the utility markings seems to make sense that if other areas needed surveying and marking to knock it out all at once.

I'm jumping with joy. But then I think of the Banbury Cross retheme so I'm kind've neutral.

You cant really make the theme of festa any worse at this point, so I doubt what they have in store will be worse then the current debacle.

Any attractions being replaced here? Obviously not AC but ER/Tea cups/Tradewinds/RR could all be on the chopping block. My immediate thought is that their expanding by RR, wouldnt be all that suprised/upset that its leaving. hopefully they get rid of the buffet too

RE: Project 2014/2015: Festa Italia Expansion/Retheme & New Major Attraction

Is it possible that the park is actually adding those extra 500 parking spaces for a reason? *gasp!* That would make too much sense to be true! ;)

Just another piece of the puzzle. ;)

I wonder how much the expansion will increase their capacity?

Take a look at Zach's picture, Roman Rapids and Apollo's Chariot are safe to say, everything else though, is all up in the air.

You're gonna need a bigger boat....err...train station.

Don't take away the tea cups! I'm fine if they relocate them to another place in the park, but just don't take them away!!

A theme park isn't complete without a tea cup ride.

I am so pumped right now! Ideas are flooding my mind on what the new attraction could be that's 150 ft high.
