I've been wondering if Nessie will close anytime soon. After all, BBW met the end of its "life service" after 25 years, while LNM continues to operate for 33 years with no sign of closure. Does anyone know when Nessie's "life service" will end? I sure hope not anytime soon! BBW closing was bad enough:(!

atleast 10 years...plus its a more durable design and will probably last longer with cheaper parts, and theres more coasters like it, compared to BBW where theres only a couple left.

Because of the Wolf's status at BGW I was very doubtful about the rumors of it's closure that started in 200. After hearing the announcement regarding it, I would not be surprised if the LNM ever meets the same fate. I believe the LNM would probably close sometime before the 2020 season.

When Nessie goes I'll never be able to visit BGW again. :(

Will the maintenance cost on it really go up? I see Nessie being around until the trains give out and even longer if they decide to replace them.

Nessie is an icon. It's as important to the park as The Cyclone is to Coney Island. As great as BBW was, the image of the park has pretty much always been Nessies loops. I think she'll be around for a while.

Aren't the track's specs the same as Vekoma's??

I'm sure there are licensing hassles and all that junk, but new trains like the ones on Carolina Cobra would
help a lot in making Nessie more enjoyable going forward.

That, and getting rid of the trim on the second hill. hehe :)

Unfortunately, I don't think any ride is sacred, as the saying goes, and I won't be surprised if Nessie is closed in the next 5 years or so. Don't think there's much marketing belief anymore that icons are so, well, iconic, that they can't be simply changed or replaced. That's not my philosophy, and I'd HATE to see Nessie go, but I don't think it's any safer than any other ride. Again, I wish the park would work harder to add rides rather than tear down old ones when new ones come in, but that hasn't been the pattern in recent years.

I don't think they would ever remove Nessie. It's a simple track design, and they have plenty of spare parts for many years. If they run out of spares, they could order new trains from a number of companies. There is also less wear and tear on this track as opposed to the BBW.

Semi-related question:
Who builds replacement Arrow trains these days? I can't think of any examples were Vekoma has provided trains for an Arrow coaster. Arrow sold trains to Vekoma "back in the day", but I don't think it's ever gone the other way, has it?

They should have, and they would have made decent money... But S&S absorbed arrow and didnt do one (good) thing with the new resources they had at their disposal...

Anyways nessie can last for a long while, but there are a few things that can go wrong....

S&S Arrow probably...

If they do anything to LNM within the next few years, it will probably more of an extensive rehab rather than a replacement. Also, it's an ACE coaster landmark. Meaning, it won't go anywhere for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.

If they do replace LNM, they'd have to deal with the outrage park guests and fans with have towards management. As well as the guilt for removing the most beloved coaster in the mid-Atlantic. IF a replacement is on the table, I couldn't imagine any other theme besides a spin off of LNM. A WWII themed coaster could fit, but not nearly as much as a LNM themed coaster.

Well that's how I feel about the big Bad Wolf but they're replacing it with a ride themed after the AutoBahn or a "Verbolten". (Whatever that is...).
