News Universal Kids Resort Project 2026: New Children's Park in Frisco, TX

Around 11 am central time today, Jeff Cheney, mayor of Frisco, Texas announced that Universal would be building a 97-acre theme park on a parcel of land off of the Dallas North Tollway. This park will mostly be aimed at kids and families, and also feature a hotel. No opening date has been set, but this is definitely a development to keep your eyes on.

Given how they are known for immersive theming at IoA, this could be awesome.

However, saying it's one-of-a-kind based on the premise of being a theme park aimed at families with young ones seems a bit misleading - I'm hoping I just read that wrong.
 
Great news have to admit the initial excitement painfully drops the more you read. “New American Universal Park” 😍😍😍😍😍 “……..focused exclusively on families with young children” 🙁 took the air right out of that initial feeling. Interesting wonder why they wouldn’t just go full Universal with it. Maybe it’s too distract the kids while all the rich parents play golOHHHH. Regardless of my personal abstinence from their target demographic exciting news for Texas residents in that demographic! As well as members of that demographic outside of Texas that got sick of those VelociCoaster ads because it’s scary.

I think reason is because SFOT, SFFT, and SWSA all have high thrill rides, and there’s no real family/kid friendly parks in that area, in terms of what the parks offer. Yes, all of them have kid attractions, but it’s not the majority of their rides—that seems to be what this new universal park is doing. Building a family/kid oriented park when there isn’t much around when it comes to that demographic.

Really pie in the sky dreaming:
Some of the rides/themes at BGT and BGW would make some really cool Dreamworks IPs for movies. What about buying an existing park?

If that were to happen, and quality in the parks went up, I guess they could redo the BfE theater for Shrek 4D...
 
On the upside…. Bolt would receive some much needed theming enhancements. As would pantheon.
 
What's admittedly interesting to this lies in the potentiality of licensed IP ontop of pre-existing Universal, Illumination, and DreamWorks IP.

Mario makes a lot of sense, when you consider the amount of money SNW is generating on both Osaka and Hollywood, ontop of Super Mario Bros. Movie. Even if it isn't a traditional SNW, having the Mario character and brand could be a major win for the Dallas area if it was done similar to LEGO Ninjago.

After the theme park is built, there will be expansion space left. It will be cool if they build a small Mario land in that space.
