Given that it was planned during Eisner's downward spiral, I'd be really curious if Disney would have kept it themed as intended, rethemed to some IP (Muppets World would have been so interesting to attempt, considering it's pretty close to where Sam and Friends first became local stars to carry Jim and the Muppets to the mainstream), sell the whole thing, or lease the land but operate no attractions.

Mariott was planning a third Great America park near Washington DC.

Cedar Point of Michigan is such an interesting topic. They owned the land since the early 70's, and let a local farm on it for a tax break. The land was finally sold off in 2012. Supposedly, Valleyfair's Corkscrew and Cedar Point's Gemini were both salvaged projects out of that failed park plan.

I don't know if it was ever a formal plan or not, but the Six Flags/Warner Bros contract for use of DC and Looney Tunes characters has a carve-out for the Las Vegas metro area - they were planning on building a Warner Bros-branded park or entertainment complex there in the late 90's-early 00's.

I think the whole park would have got a DCA style revamp within the first 10 years. I can't, for example, see the draw of 3x a day historical baseball exhibition games. If its was the ESPN Wide World of Sports place would have been doing it at WDW.

I'm no big fan of the mouse, but given that Disney is the gold standard for theme parks (even when the first version of Hong Kong was shitty, and they fucked up with France even if the park itself was ok), I'm guessing it would have probably stuck around long enough to disrupt KD and SFA's operations.

It'd have also interesting to see what it'd have done for historical tourism including Colonial Williamsburg, Monticello, Mt. Vernon, etc. plus any conflicts with BGW (not similar direct theming but one could see the colonizer > indigenous/slave themes present between the parks).

I thought the lofty goals of Disney’s America, teaching history and connecting with actual historic sites would have fallen flat and the park would have either closed or evolved into a more traditional Disney theme park.

It would have turned into some variation of what DCA is now with probably the planned Main Street part and the Hall of Presidents, which would have surely have moved there, being in tact

Counter point. Had it been successful I could have seen it evolve into more regional parks for DIS that were smaller and could have spread their footprint.
