Kennywood will close Thunderbolt during Phantom Fright Nights to begin track replacement work on roller coaster

Kennywood says it needs to start working on the Thunderbolt for next season. The beloved roller coaster won't be running when the amusement park transitions to Phantom Fright Nights for Halloween.

Perfectly acceptable especially considering the nature and disposition of the ride.

It puts a lot more force in places than other rides do and some areas that may need retracking aren't necessarily as accessible as they would be for other rides.

Hope it's back and better than ever next year.

Retracked? Really? If Hurler and Mean Streak taught us anything its that a ride can be in much worse shape and people would still ride it, or at least you let a Woodie go to crap and then give it over to RMC. JK, I seriously hope that NONE of the current Kennywood woodies EVER get an RMC treatment. I mean, I love RMC, but those coasters are CLASSIC! I doubt that the park would do anything like that anyways.
