History:
Texas Splashdown was one of the original attractions at SeaWorld San Antonio, along with Rio Loco. It originally opened at Boardwalk and Baseball in 1987 with the name Grand Rapids Log Flume. When Boardwalk and Baseball closed on January 17, 1990, Grand Rapids Log Flume was relocated to SeaWorld San Antonio (which was owned by the same company as Boardwalk and Baseball). Grand Rapids Log Flume opened at SeaWorld San Antonio in 1991 with a new name, Texas Splashdown. It was announced on May 4, 2011, that Texas Splashdown would soon be retired after operating at SeaWorld San Antonio for 20 years. Texas Splashdown closed on May 13, 2011, with no official reason given for its closure (it was most likely due to maintenance issues). All the vertical elements were demolished, while the in-ground trough, queue houses, and station were left behind. The ride area would remain vacant, while the queue houses would be used for Unearthed Scarlett's Revenge (defunct haunted house) and outdoor space for Animal Connections (defunct animal exhibit). On March 24, 2022, ParkFans obtained site plans for a new log flume that would be built on the site of Texas Splashdown. The site plans showed that the original queue houses and station would be re-used. Certain sections of Texas Splashdown's layout would also be integrated into the new layout. On September 27, 2022, SeaWorld San Antonio announced that the new log flume would be Catapult Falls. It was met with great excitement from people that have experienced Texas Splashdown, that its replacement would be a new log flume. People that have experienced Texas Splashdown will now be able to re-experience the area again while riding Catapult Falls. Signs were installed at the splash zone for Catapult Falls that say Texas Splashdown Zone.
