Tanganyika Tidal Wave opened in June of 1989 [1] on the site of the former African Queen Boat Ride [2]. Much of the ride's lower portion (outside of the lift hill and drop) follows the former's track.

I'm gonna miss this ride... This was a great way to get soaked with barely any line.

Maybe a remodel and a new name, in that case,"Tanganyika Tidal Wave" will never reopen, but a renovated version of the ride will open.
Took a stroll around the tidal wave today, I must say, 10/10 job making this ride look like it doesn't exist, just like gwazi 
I still really wonder why they actually decided to close it all of a sudden, I wish the park would actually tell us these things.

The park did a pretty good job of incorporating some of the ride's queue line for Curse of the Black Spot. Its just too bad the park didn't bother salvaging the ride. I think a Pompeii-style makeover with a dark section would work really well with the ride.
I'm sure they are weighing their options. The area is too small for most coasters. That said the park could use many more flats, dark rides, and water rides. Whatever they do with it, that area should be used sooner than later.
It is also worth noting that FL has seen low numbers recently so any improvement could have been a bit slow to come due to this.

Back in the early years of Escape From Pompeii, there were rumors of something like that happening. Rumors ranged from a couple of animatronics to a full Pompeii-style makeover. If those rumors ever held any water, now would be a great time to explore those possibilities again.
That said, they would probably have to build from the ground up because of all the wear- in which case they should at least make it a water coaster hybrid like Journey To Atlantis.
