Congratulations to Steel Eel for making it this long. 👀 This spanking machine needs a B&M replacement or perhaps Premier can do some restoration for it like they are doing for BGW’s Loch Ness Monster. For such a beautiful-looking ride, it needs some love. And sometimes, when you love something, you need to let it go.

I have not ridden Steel Force or Mamba. In every valley on Steel Eel, your air time is reversed with a sharp, downward slam into the seat, to the point of my wife and I laughing our heads off in discomfort.

This video by ElToroRyan shows what I mean, and he’s in the back row, which people in YouTube Comments say is the better spot. I was toward the front of the train.

That’s my memory of Steel Force. Phantoms Revenge is very much the same on its airtime. I love it. The flat nature of the hills make it like that and it’s so fun.

Must be a matter of opinion. I rode Steel Eel last January and loved it. Here’s a review I wrote of the coaster in my trip report:
Steel Eel - A surprise hit. I’m a sucker for these Morgan/Arrow hyper coasters (even though Steel Eel is technically not a hyper coaster), having ridden CP’s Magnum XL-200 and Dorney’s Steel Force. Steel Eel is hands down the best of the three in my opinion. It has fantastic, sustained floater on every hill, awesome pops of air on the bunny hills, great forces, and an interesting layout that stays high up in the air for most of its run. Wasn’t expecting to like this one as much as I did, but it was just plain fun. (This one does have an odd station though, with no roof over the train, sort of like Emperor’s much-maligned station at SWSD. I can’t imagine how awful it must feel to sit in the station in the Texas summers.)

If that’s the best of the three, I fear the other two. 🤣

The air time is amazing! But you’ll notice in the YouTube video the person in the far seat has hands raised, enjoying the air time, and by the end he’s holding on because of the WHACKS the ride gives you. That’s just like my experience. I’m all for the airtime moments, but I don’t like being punished after every one.

Being from a park that has the smooooooth B&M, I expected a smooth ride, but it was janky. I’d go back to enjoy Texas Stingray and Tidal Surge again, but I wouldn’t ride Steel Eel again.

Happy 25th anniversary Steel Eel! 🎢

Steel Eel has been down for a week and journey to Atlantis has not been open for awhile. It usually opens during spring break.
