Soak City

The water has been turned on and training has begun. I had the pleasure of visiting the park twice this weekend instead of my latest trend of BGW on Friday and KD on Sunday. Lifeguards are operating rides and riding/testing slides as well as going through their training exercises. I'm really looking forward to Waterworks this year and my little girl has begun swim classes so that we can have more fun in this area during 2014! Bring on the heat!
Well...Visiting the waterpark on Memorial Monday turned out to be a pretty bad idea. Bad stuff first. There were so many people in there that you could hardly walk. Every lawn chair in the whole park was being used. The grassy areas surrounding the front wave pool were full of towels pitched in picnic fashion. Lines for a coke refill were 30+ minutes. The mens bathroom had only 2 stalls and a 15+ minute wait. It was just miserable.
There was a lifeguard shortage in the kids waterslide area. One lifeguard was monitoring 4 slides, but only 2 slides at a time, while the other 2 were toward her back. 4 kids down 2 slides and then STOP, turn around, then 4 kids down the other 2. The Gal waited 30 minutes to go down her first ever waterslide that was a whopping 12 feet off the ground. It was terrifying for me! Her Mom got her started on her bum sitting up, but when she came around the final corner she was on her back going head first! I scooped her up just as she hit the deep water trough. It was kinda funny later on after I had calmed down. She had a smile on her face though!
We put our clothes back on and went out into the rest of the park to ride rides and crowds were fine. Overall, I feel like Waterwork's capacity is crap. They needed to stop letting people in there for the simple fact that NONE of their facilities could handle that many people.

Waterworks just got a new name! It will now be referred to as 'Soak City'!

I believe that only leaves Dorney Park and Geauga Lake as the only water parks in their chain not to use Soak City..

I'm a fan of the Soak City name. It makes the water park have more of its own identity and gives the chain some unity to it's naming.

This leads me to wonder who currently owns the copyright to the names of the facilities that were changed under Paramount. Hurricane Reef and Mason Dixon Theater come to mind. I wonder if some of those names do not resurface because IP issues.
^ I've also wondered this. With Candy Apple Grove and Safari Village returning last season, I thought this season would be the perfect time to rebrand WaterWorks back to Hurricane Reef in honor of the 40th.
However, Soak City was my second choice, and I'm much more excited for these additions now that it comes with rebranding. Hopefully all of the existing slides get vibrant new colors to match the new Hurricane Heights (that name will win).

This season will be the first time going to the water park area. Can anyone tell me the park's policy on water shoes and/or Aqua socks? Also, does the park let you wear flip flops and then hold them on the ride?

I can only tell you what I have observed in the past. I am not sure what the official park policy is. You might check the web section on water park rules & regulations.
I am pretty sure you CANNOT wear the aqua shoes/socks on any body slide. I thought the lifeguards made you hold them when riding.
For the tube slides, I thought there was some inconsistency on whether or not the lifeguards would allow aqua shoes/socks. Be prepared to hold them if the they ask you to remove them.
I don't think the park cares if you wear aqua shoes/socks in the wave pools or the lazy river.
Again, this is only what I have observed in the past.

Dusting this one off, perhaps needs to be renamed to Soak City...
I wonder what KD/CF management can do to push marketing on Soak City?
They could hammer home that two people can purchase a single day ticket for Soak City that inherently gives access to Kings Dominion for what one regularly priced Water Country USA ticket costs (based on their website offerings for single day tickets at full price).
Granted, WC has a lot more attractions than SC - however, it's still a tremendous value. And since it's summer, now's a great time to push marketing for the water parks.
