RE: [Maze] Slaughter House (2010 - Current)
I never ever liked Slaughterhouse. Maybe the gross-out genre of "scare" they're going for in this maze just doesn't work for me. I always thought the sets in Slaughterhouse were much less impressive than in mazes like Doll Factory, No Vacancy, or even Lockdown. I'd pit Slaughterhouse even lower than its mediocre neighbor, Maze of Madness.
The maze always felt like it could have been helped with a good chainsaw scare, but supposedly due to an injury at another Cedar Fair park, the maze only used cheap toy chainsaws. With that missing, the only effective scares in the maze for me were the constant banging of metal utensils on metal countertops- which, in all fairness, could be startling if done right.
Other than that, I thought the maze was more humorously grotesque than anything else. Heck, constantly being whacked by the hanging carcasses of different animals' innards seems like a play from Howl-O-Scream's playbook. And while I appreciate the use of rock music for thematic effect, I think the rock music soundtrack just made everything feel cheesier.
I for one am not sad to see this maze go. But what do we think is replacing it? Rumors of a clown maze have been circling for a while now. The location, smack in the middle of Cleaver Brothers Carnival, would be a perfect fit for a clown maze.
