While Six Flags Over Georgia has been preparing to start vertical construction on Kid Flash: Cosmic Coaster for a 2023 opening, it seems the park could have another, larger, project in store for 2024 that's gone under the radar.
Within the last couple of weeks, a large amount of speculation has started to evolve around the near future of Six Flags Over Georgia and a potentially large project slated for 2024. This year, SFOG will debut their all-new "Coaster Fest" event on the 19th & 20th of August; as stated on the media flyer, this event is described as featuring "Exclusive ride time, Track walks, Behind the scenes tours, Catered meals, Commemorative gifts, A Rollercoaster 5k, PLUS, A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!". Alongside that, the QR code from this flyer brings you to the page regarding the event (website here) and uses statements such as "You definitely won’t want to miss this inside look at what we have planned FOR 2024!", and "special presentations and announcements from the Six Flags Over Georgia team".
Additionally, there were various users in The Unofficial Six Flags Over Georgia Discussion Group on Facebook who stated that they knew "A big secret about what's going to happen in 2024", as quoted by one member who got to meet and chat with Dave Zellner, the new park president of SFOG (If I recall correctly, he's previously worked at SF Magic Mountain and Discovery Kingdom). These users emphasized that this announcement also has nothing to do with Kid Flash or its opening.
I was a little hesitant to speculate about a new ride with just that information but held out a little hope; late August is typically when new major additions are announced / despite being somewhat notable, Kid Flash was teased by PR a single day before its announcement. At this point, I could only wait and wish for a sign of land/lot clearing to begin.
Sure enough, that wish came true!
Last Friday, a user in the Georgia Coaster Connection Discord server sent two photos of the long-defunct Splashwater Falls (shoot-the-chute water ride) and its water basin being torn out with an excavator. Multiple vehicles were spotted at the site throughout the last few days, with work on surveying and clearing underway at a rapid pace; this started where Splashwater's splash-down element and exit bridge once were. Additionally, a yellow string supported by metal stakes lines the entire perimeter of the old ride space (Does this mean anything important?). Splashwater has been closed since late 2016, with most of the ride structure being torn out around early summer of 2021; at the time, this led to intense speculation, only for the water basin and queue to remain standing for just over two years at this point. With ground broken after years of sitting and an announcement from the park being imminent, the stars are aligning too well for this to be a coincidence (in my opinion).
Is this going to be typical marketing over-hype from PR, or could one of Six Flags' major attractions be going to Over Georgia next year; if so, what model are you placing bets on coming to the park? I recall hearing that SF bought 3 raptors with the JDC/WWFOC layout; this would fit within the plot perfectly, but can't find a source for that purchase.
