Either coaster option seems strong for Great America, but yeah, I agree that a B&M giga in particular would be absolutely killer. SFGAm is sorta in a unique position too since they have the only B&M hyper with a true twister layout. A B&M giga for SFGAm would be much more unique in the park's lineup than previous examples where parks with B&M hypers also get B&M gigas (Caro, CW, KI).

I don’t see a reason why both coasters don’t eventually get added. The Family Launch could be perfect, especially since from what I’m hearing. Camp Cartoon might be going once this new kids area is open.

Interesting to see a Flying Theater show up on one of these surveys. I could picture one as a replacement for The Dark Knight (wild mouse in a box) if they went with a Mack model like SeaWorld Orlando.
I’m honestly surprised they’re the only ones looking into it. A flying theater feels like the kind of thing they could put into most of their top tier parks. Like Carowinds getting one for Aeronautica feels incredibly obvious to me, or Magic Mountain getting one that flies over the mountains of California.

Idk if park management/the higher ups look at this board, but as a regular goer to GAm I'll put my thoughts here since I didn't get a survey :(

I think both the giga and the family launch coaster would be amazing to have, the giga especially as a selfish thoosie but I'd definitely ride the family launch coaster every time I went too.

The flying theater I'm open to but not sure how much I'd do it if the effort isn't there. For example, SeaWorld Orlando's flying theater wasn't my favorite and I'm not sure how often I'd do it if I went to that park regularly, but I love Soarin', so I'm definitely open to the flying theater if it's well done.

The Flying Theater could be fun, but I don’t know where they’d put it

I know flying theaters can be done smaller and cheaper than traditional dark rides, but I also worry they're gonna age much worse, provide notably lower capacity, and prove far less reridable for local audiences. Not a big fan of them at locals-heavy, amusement-vibe-y parks at all.

Honestly, if a theater ride is what the park can fit/afford, I'd rather see something like an indoor, themed flat ride, a Mack Gameplay Theater, a Vekoma Madhouse, etc.

Agreed. That's kind of my worry too, I'd much rather go on a traditional dark ride. Also was just thinking about how Magic Mountain suggested a replacement for their Justice League dark ride in their survey, and if that's successful, maybe Great America could get a replacement for theirs as well?

YES. I'd love all of those but when I think of indoor themed flat rides, I think of Cyclone Sam's at Worlds of Fun (indoor Wipeout with strobe lights and music), loved it! Closest thing to that Great America has is their teacups during fright fest. Would be awesome if we could have a similar ride as an all year alternative.

But people would compare one at MM that flies over California to Soarin. That would probably be an unfair comparison, unless MM executed it very well.

Huh? Where would they possibly fit a giga?
There is plenty of room. Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland, Goliath at La Ronde, and Silver Star at Europa-Park are excellent examples on how to fit a ride in impossible locations.
Use disconnected plots, build over everything in the way, and when all else fails, go over park entrance and parking lots (if zoning allows).
Although Monster at Gröna Lund is an invert, it is a master class is fitting a ride in an impossible location.

I guess. It would be precarious for sure. Leviathan is kind of out in the middle of nowhere at the park. I've never been to Europa Park or La Ronde so I can't speak to either of those. I guess Carowinds kind of squeezed Fury in there. Guess we'll see what happens. I imagine they'll do the family launch coaster first since the original plan was to focus on the new kids area.

Does anyone know if Great America can/can't build over this lake?

It's in the area zoned as C5: Regional Recreational District, shown in the map below as the blue zone. The lake is marked on some maps as "Great America Pond" or "Great America Lake". For reference, the park's entrance sign is on the very top of the zoned area, and I've added a red line to show it on the map below.

I also don't see it marked on this map, which shows both publicly and privately protected natural areas (like preserves).

There are a few residences just to the east of the lake, but if they area able to build over the lake, could they do a Mako sort of situation, maybe just sticking to the left side of the lake and maybe using a sound wall like Silver Star's, and build a portion of the ride there?

It may fall under their stormwater management mitigation so it might not be touchable.
After looking into it, it's very plausible, that the pond is a naturalized detention basins for rainwater runoff from the giant impervious concrete parkin lot to run into. This certainly makes it less likely that the park could use it, but it may not be impossible - the park may just have to jump through a few more hurdles. I believe they still own the land and it is zoned for recreational use, but if they are allowed to pour a few footers there, they would probably have to get extra approval and/or compensate for the lost capacity of the pond in some way. These are just some guesses though - I don't know what protections are in place for ponds like these.

Here are a few ideas for potential Giga coaster locations. The first two would require the removal of Superman Ultimate Flight and would go under and over the new entrance to the park.

The third idea assumes Kidzopolis is on the way out and requires the removal of the redundant section of access road between Justice League and X-Flight. It would also require the queue for Justice League to be relocated to the grass area on the other side of the building and would most likely require a setback variance along Route 21.
