I was at Great Adventure this past weekend and caught this note on the bottom of the order boards at the park? Is this new?

Can anyone confirm whether this is chain-wide? Also, is it only for food and beverage, or does the $0.99 surcharge apply to merchandise, as well?

I believe (but can't 100% confirm) that it's a chain-wide thing, and unfortunately it does get tacked on at merchandise locations as well.

Just like everything else in the industry, if one of the companies get away with it, they all do it.

But these theme park companies have been doing this for years with their online sales. They add a surcharge to all of those.

This is dishonest and false advertising. It’s discouraging the companies choose to play sleazy tricks like this instead of just honestly advertising the real price.

Ethics is low in the business world. It’s the same dishonest train of thought when companies reduce quantity of a product without reducing price. They hope consumers won’t notice just like a pickpocket.

I first saw this posted somewhere on FB last at the time it wasn't appearing at SFA which could simply mean it was a test balloon that has since been expanded.

I overheard while at SF New England that they originally were limiting merchandise purchases to one a transaction, thereby effectively adding a dollar to every item.
This surcharge already cost Six Flags a couple of merchandise sales from me. This type of surchage makes me angry. (If they raised the prices of the tshirt I wanted to buy from $18 to $19, I would not care at all).

Wait….what? They literally were making you run 5 transactions for 5 items hitting you with the surcharge every time?

I have personally seen the new surcharge at both SFA and SFOG this season, on food/beverage as well as merchandise; so it certainly seems to be chain-wide (or if not already, will likely be soon).

And here's an example I saw from my visit to SFOG:

So, uh, bets on whether "New Six Flags" keeps it or abolishes it? Obviously they SHOULD remove it, but how hard a sell is that when people are paying it?

Since the new Six Flags will be led by Richard Zimmerman of Cedar Fair, my guess is that they will abolish it. At least, that’s what I hope. These ongoing budget cuts, however, make me nervous that they won’t (hate to be a broken record here).

How does this compare to CF prices? Curious because maybe this is the start of them matching prices.

I'd be ok with raised prices if they made the food a lot better. Hire a good chef, like KD did. But just raising prices while giving the same mediocre food - that is infuriating
