According to rumors posted here https://www.zoochat.com/community/threads/seaworld-san-diego-news.184386/page-22, Seaworld is planning on closing the penguin exhibit in San Diego and rehoming all of the Antarctic penguins inside to other parks, including the emperors. A larger outdoor South American penguin exhibit would replace it. Also, it looks like the shark encounter plans have been revived

I would find this super, super disappointing. SeaWorld San Diego's penguin collection was one of the stand-out elements of the park in my opinion and though yes, I agree that the Penguin Encounter building felt a little dated, it is still easily one of the best penguin exhibits I've ever seen.

This is another they don’t want to remove it but they have to situations, the aza is down their backs about San Diego’s. San Antonio’s is also similar but there’s no plans for that rn.
As far as the shark encounter remodel goes I’ve heard similar to what SWO did for Mako.

Also to note here, San Diego is also getting a rescue center like Orlando, where tidal twister was

I mean, they do not have to remove anything. Ride removals is one thing. However, when it comes to their animals, they cannot just close an exhibit simply because it requires renovation and investments. This directly conflicts with their messaging and mission. I would not be surprised if he did, but I really do not thing even Scott Ross would make this mistake.

I had an interesting thought that could it be remotely possible that they would do this to basically demolish and start from scratch by rebuilding a whole new habitat? It just makes no sense to me for them to eliminate a penguin habitat.

I'll be baffled if they end up just permanently removing the penguins from this park entirely when it's such a major part of every SeaWorld park. Their biggest ride is literally named and "themed" after penguins, so it'd look pretty silly to not have the actual namesake animals in the park lol. What ought to be happening is they build a brand new penguin exhibit next to Emperor and move the penguins there.

They even have a large empty parking lot back next to emperor that is accessible from the emperor plaza and large enough to fit a new penguin encounter the size of the one in Orlando. View attachment 37175
One would have to think this was part of the plan at some point, right? Like sometime between the name changing from Mako to Emperor and the budget getting slashed so badly that it didn't even get a station roof?
New pointless conspiracy theory: the park originally wanted to build a new shark exhibit here, but then they found out the ground is too contaminated from the former toxic waste dump to dig a below-ground aquarium, so they decided they'd relocate the penguins here instead and just refurbish the existing shark encounter.

The only thing is that an new penguin or shark encounter would be massive and either would cost nearly triple the cost of building emperor and would need coastal commission approval which it was not included in emperor’s permits which showed the plan pre budget cut.
