I have to make a comment, I would like theme parks to be more transparent about what days on their operating calendar are days there is expected to be a lot of school groups in attendance. I went to Kings Dominion last Friday and saw all the buses on the way in and immediately felt dread. I was at Hersheypark today, didn’t notice the buses on the way in but arrived to a park full of teenagers being as obnoxious as possible and largely trashing the park.
They don’t normally bother me at parks but I’d like 8 out of 10 guests are teens the teens tend to run loose. Hershey today had rampant line jumping and trash just everywhere. I had a group of 8 cut me at Candymonium and I called them out, they stared at me like I was nuts, I informed the ride op at the bottom of the steps for the station that all of them cut the line that I waited an hour in. She stared at me like I was insane and let the group of teens just go upstairs like nothing happened and I ended up getting paired with them on the ride so I went straight to guest services after to file a complaint. There I found more season pass holders frustrated with the teens just running rampant in the park. One told me how teens were just literally jumping table to table in the food court.
I get school groups are a big revenue generator for the parks and that’s okay, but ya know it would be nice to get a little more heads up on the days that the park is going to be a hellhole because literally actual busses of adolescents are there running amok, cutting lines, trashing the park (Hershey might have been one of the dirtiest parks I’ve been in today) just making the entire experience miserable for everyone else.
(Memo to members of Gen Z who partake in the “excessive screaming” gag. It’s not funny at all and mostly just annoys everyone around you, if that’s the point congratulations you made all the adults dealing with life’s shit more miserable for your extremely brief internal laugh).
Personally I would just appreciate some kind of indication on the calendar if it’s a day to expect lots of school groups in the park so non school group guests can be aware and plan/adjust expectations accordingly. I recall before KD and Carowinds, likely in the paramount days would specify it’s like “roller coaster science day” or something I can’t remember what they called it but something like that would be helpful. Hershey especially today left a sour taste in my mouth. KD was somewhat tolerable Friday but I do not think they had nearly as many school groups as Hershey did today.
I mean sure the parks would prefer us to come and get swipey swiper with our credit cards and suffer through the endless sea of obnoxious teenagers anyway. But if you want people to come back and it’s the annual family road trip for the year and they arrive to THAT they aren’t going to respond too well.
