We are 90 min from Carowinds. Their event is in the evenings, only. It is a separate paid event, plus parking. So, if you pay to go of the day, you have to leave the park 5:30ish and pay to get back in for Scarowinds that night. It's $26.99 the first few nights. $50 on normal nights. The hours are usually 7-12 (wish BGW went until midnight!)

They had a music show "Eternal Jamnation" that was a sort of Halloween Glee and an outside 15 min song and dance. But, those are different this year. They do a drum thing that was noise.
The scare cast randomly roams the whole park. Some interesting characters. A few "zones" where specific characters hang (vampires, dolls, zombies, etc). The mazes are a lot of noise and startles instead of scary. The clown one is 3D, but they charge you for glasses (we take our own). Lines can be long, but they move fairly well early in the season. Past an hour later in the season. It pays ($ and time) to go early in the season.
Ride lines are terrible. We only do mazes, zones and shows. The only one really worth riding is Intimidator. The others are older and sometimes rough. You probaly won't have time to do ride and mazes. It's one or the other. They are a maze short this year. It isn't a quality event, but $30 isn't terrible if you think of it like 7 haunted houses.

We have just always picked BGW Howl-O-Scream in the past but were wanting to try something maybe new this year to also do along with it.

Cool! We did it because we had passes. We only did a BGW pass this year to cut costs. The only way we'd do it without a pass would be on the 3 cheap days they offer. As long as you don't expect BGW HOS (well what use to pass for BGW HOS) it is okay. We are considering going one of those cheap days this year. Depends on if nothing is up for us those days and we feel like driving down. But, 90 min is a bit better than 4 hours to BGW.

Setup has started. Is it just me or is it sad that they do a better England facade than BGW? They like to play with naming executive's, too.

Cedar Fair's Haunt facade work has been incredible over the last few years. Don't know what changed, but it's mighty impressive.
I think I just cried inside. Great attention to detail like that is my singular favorite thing in any haunt. That said, KD still has miles to go. I agree with Zachary on the overall improvements though. Maybe it's because they don't waste too much money on events early in the season?
I saw a little bit of setup there last week, but nothing too exciting or wondrous. This recent progress looks fantastic, though, and I'm psyched to make a trip in October. They seem to have a really solid amount of mazes lined up, and I enjoyed reading the Scarowinds site, especially for the detailed backstories and easter eggs (The rival high school in Zombie High is the B&M Furies… clever). Hopefully the rest of their work looks just as good moving forward.
I know it's been a while since this thread has some activity. But I had a quick question. When Scarowinds takes place do you have to physically leave the park if you already have a ticket and re-enter or do they have a holding spot like Universal does with people who already have their ticket for the event. Thanks in advance.
Yes, they physically clear the park totally out to reset the zones and houses. They close the day at 5pm and start the Hauting at 7pm. But you can get back through the gates to the plaza about 6:30. We usually go tailgate dinner in the parking lot or take a nap to power up for the long hours left. ???We haven't got down this year, yet. Hoping for the 13th to get some photos to put up here.
Thanks for the info. We never made it over there yet. I've not been since I was in highschool. lol I'm really hoping we can attend this year.
BTW, SCarowinds was nominated in USA Today's 10 Best contest for Best Theme Park Halloween Event. CW is currently 4th place. Dominion at 3rd and BGW at 8th.

We are headed down for this next weekend and I thought I would mention that for non-passholders, this is a double ticketed event! The park closes at 5 and reopens at 7 for Scarowinds. You have to purchase a separate ticket to get back in. They sell for $37 online, but I just got off the phone with guest services there and she gave me some useful advice....if you have paid to get in to the park already for the day, you can go to guest services ‘inside the park’ and get a Scarowinds ticket for $20. I’m guessing it’s just a matter of time befor HAUNT starts doing this. I’m surprised that they aren’t already!
I honestly think more parks should do that. Clear everyone out at 5, let them tailgate in the lot, and then unleash hell later on in the evening. Especially so if you're trying to provide an actual scare experience, get the kids and families outta there. This also does wonders for the employees because they basically get a free break in the middle of what could possibly be a 15-16 hour shift.
