I wonder what they are doing to it? When I rode it a couple years ago it bottomed out a lot, or sounded and felt like it was doing that. Maybe it wasn't actually. Was still fun, but was kinda strange.

Blauer be positive about any topic on this website (instant fail)

Anyways I think it’s a very nice flume that goes out into the woods I got to do it at 11pm last year during thrillathon ERT bc el toro big broke 2 days before last years event, and on that topic there’s zero news on thrillathon this year so I think it could be cancelled

Of all of Great Adventure's opening day rides, the Log Flume was the biggest hit. Like so many of the park's attractions it laid claim to the "World's Longest Flume Ride", and the crowds loved it, standing on long lines in the hot sun for hours to ride it.

Initially the ride had no queue building, with the huge area of switchbacks in the sun, and spilling across the pathway into an overflow queue. The ride also had an "uphill" section in the back section which was exciting but impractical and was removed over time.

The ride was such a hit that the park immediately ordered a second, even bigger flume for the 1975 season.

Fifty years later, the Flume is still one of the most popular rides in the park appealing to a wide variety of guests, and for the 2024 season will be getting a much needed rehab for it's golden anniversary.

That’s the primary issue with spillway drops—without a high power flow of water behind the boat, it’s much more likely for a boat to valley there.

Water coasters have uphill sections with no trouble, why couldn't they do something like that?

Essentially they'd have to give it a real makeover with a LIM/LSM system to make sure the boats make it up the hill like Catapult Falls at SWSA. Those boats are heavy, and guests are heavier than they were back when it opened.

Spillway drops also had a big problem with things like tree debris from what I've read/understand. Just an all-round maintenance nightmare.

Folks are building log flumes with gravity-fed, uphill segments again now, but they're nothing like the old Arrow spillways. Only way such a thing would make its way to an existing log flume would be alongside an enormous, probably full ride system-scale, renovation/replacement.

I interpreted @Crunchewy ’s question as asking why they didn’t give it a coaster-style drop, like Family Kingdom’s log flume has (shown below). By using coaster-like track, it seems like the flume avoids the issues related to valleying and water pressure that these Arrow flumes (Saw Mill, Le Scoot) had. But maybe the required totally new boats, and the cheaper solution was just removing that element?

Boats also chewed through the fiberglass ridiculously quick in the spillway, would end up getting 4 times the amount of maintenance as the rest of the ride would.

On the Sunday after opening day I saw flume pieces in the drop off area by the driveway.

In makes sense the uphill section would have wear issues.

Great to have this open and operating again! I saw a bunch of employees in the station on Thursday so I figured we might see an opening over the weekend - I'm really glad they opened it sooner with Autumn closing in. Apparently the wait time was over an hour yesterday, while the nearby coasters had relatively little in the way of lines.

They're also offering a nice looking complimentary pin for passholders tomorrow:
