Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is an absolute masterpiece. Anyone who is planning to hit up CGA before it closes needs to be sure to make time for both of the Bay Area's other main, smaller parks: SCBB and Gilroy Gardens. Both are hugely worthwhile.

SCBB in particular though, like @paintervision said, is an absolute gem. Charming to the max, incredibly well maintained, a great collection of good, quirky rides, delightful darkrides, a beautiful location, etc. I absolutely love the place.

I’m going to north cali for a family reunion and obv we’re going to CGA, but Gilroy is ON THE WAY to where we’re going next, so I hope we stop by for what will probably be only a few hours before we move on

Alright incoming classic yap post from me, you’ve been warned.

One train operations were insanely efficient on it when I went last June. Actually this ride also shares its birthday with me so that’s funny. Crews would load the train insanely fast and then send it quickly. It also has the record for the earliest I’ve ridden a coaster (as of now XD), about 8am because I got breakfast across the street, it was open for ert and got a front row lap on it.

I didn’t go in with very many expectations, but even after riding I was.. quite disappointed. I never got a very back row ride on it, but I got near the back and I personally found it bumpy. Now, obviously it’s 100 years old atp when I rode it, its gonna be a little bumpy, but when I’ve ridden cyclone many times, and also dragon coaster at rye playland, 2 smoother classic wooden coasters from the same era, I was expecting a bit smoother.

My other issue is this ride just.. didn’t have bite to it. I expected it to do a lot more, again in the style of the Coney Island cyclone. Alas it was just.. a bit of a nothing burger. Up front was better than my ride near the back, but even then I still found it pretty lackluster. I honestly much prefer dragon coaster to this ride. It’s much longer, smoother, and if you’re in the very front or the very back it has some nice moments.

I really want to ride this ride again, definitely in the very back row, but what I rode in June 2024 didn’t wow me much at all. I much prefer the cyclone and many other classic woodies to this. And even in the same park, I prefer rock o plane and wipeout to this. Maybe if I get a back row ride I’ll like it more, but until then, I’m staying a skeptic.

Ok rambling done hopefully that made sense.
