With opening day of Great Adventure's 50th quickly approaching, I'm highlighting some of the the opening day attractions.

The Runaway Mine Train was the first roller coaster at Great Adventure, and is probably one of Arrow's best Mine Train style coasters. For many guests (me included) this was the very first roller coaster I ever road.

Here's a link to the full spotlight on the Runaway Mine Train:

How about that 1976 poster map showing 3 trains all running the track at the same time!

It's amazing how well this ride has held up throughout the decades.

Here are a few photos of the Runaway Mine Train under construction from May/June 1974:

I wonder if they'll ever replace this ride. It's old and certainly not the best coaster in the park, but the place would look pretty sad if the Runaway Train was no longer swooping around the fort. So I think if they ever DID decide (or need) to take this away, they would have to replace it with another coaster that also integrated with the fort. And I would hope it wouldn't be a DC-themed coaster. I don't want to see them theming it to Aquaman just because it goes over some water. Either make a new mine train or something similarly themed. I could picture a cowboy/horse themed coaster working well there, too.

I think the mine train is safe. Only one Arrow mine train has ever been scrapped, and that was due to it being damaged during relocation. That whole area of the park HAS to be up next for renovation after Boardwalk/Golden Kingdom, as the rest is pretty solid, but I do believe it’ll keep its current theming and RMT serves that theming very well, not to mention it’s incredibly reliable.

The park has a very solid lineup right now where even if we hadn’t just lost 2 coasters, I wouldn’t particularly be PLEASED to see any of the current ones go. That said, I think in that area, Medusa would go long before RMT.

i think the harley quinn to jersey devil corridor will be up first. lot of dated, low-traffic flat rides in a very neglected part of the park with land that just opened up from the skyride closure. re-working that entire strip into a better family-friendly area with consistent theming could be massive, especially since log flume just got refurbed.

If they ever did replace the Runaway Mine Train, an Intamin water coaster would be an interesting choice. They'd have to clean up the lake by the fort, of course, but having a coaster that actually splashed riders into that lake could be fun, and it would offer a ride experience that the park doesn't currently have (of course, it would also be a bit limiting since it would only have appeal on hot days... so, maybe not the best choice.)

Last time I visited the park the second RMT train was clearly visible from Nitro's last set of camelback hills, sitting out in the open near the backlot buildings. Not sure what they still need to do to it.

The one back in the maintenance buildings by Nitro is a third train. The second train has been on the transfer since at least early last week. It does not look like the second train is ready to go, it looked like one of the cars was not coupled.
It is a shame that the maintenance budget was so tight for awhile that they were unable to keep two operating trains always ready on a ride that has a spare train. Hopefully by the end of the season maintenance will finally be caught up.
Does anyone know for certain if the fourth train still exists, or was it parted out or otherwise disposed of?
On another note, the fort looks defeated without its flags.
Also, on days when Flash Pass is merged at the entrance staircase, they need a sign at the exit direction Flash Pass to not use the exit. Preferably, the ride should always have an entrance attendant (except perhaps the slowest of days). A large amount of exit boarding kills the rides throughput.
I wonder if thers any chance that any of the legacy Cedar Fair parks could get the individual lap bar upgrades?
