My first impression from seeing it on YouTube is that I’m disappointed in the lack of physical scenery. I would still probably prefer it over Turn It Up, but it’s not the Broadway style show that I was hoping for.

I appreciate the attempt to have a slight narrative and not just a collection of unrelated segments. Maybe after so many years of Turn It Up they didn't want to pivot away too hard from the pop music route if the audience expects that sort of thing.

Definitely an improvement over Turn It Up in that there was at least some minimal attempt to convey a theme (and one that fits the park!) and a narrative. I wasn't expecting much in the way of scenery, but the lack of an original score is a big disappointment. Seems like the company has just made a firm policy of not writing original soundtracks anymore, because they haven't done any since 2017 (not counting the short queue soundtracks they farm out to Imascore or similar studios). Still, they could've at least used lesser-known/instrumental music or their own past soundtracks instead of Top 40 pop songs.

After having seen it not once but twice yesterday, I can safely say that this show is better than a lot of people are giving it credit for. It checks a lot of boxes:
Story, dance, acrobatics, lighting, music, and INDOORS.

In both the shows I saw it was very well received and a full show both times (mind you, this was a Sunday and not particularly busy—everything was short waits except for the 3 main line drawers, Gwazi, Cheetah, and Cobra). I even heard several guests saying “that was really good!” and “that was better than I expected!”, among other general positive reviews. I think the song choice was picked out very well and none of the songs are out of place with the show. Do I wish they’d made an original score? Yes. Do I hate the show for having the pop music? No, because it was integrated rather well.

The fact they actually made an attempt to convey a story, albeit not a thorough one, is much better than lots of previous shows we’ve come to see out of SEAS parks in the recent years. The show clocks in at about 25 minutes, which is great, when a lot of newer productions across the chain have been clocking in at 20 or even 15 minute show durations.

The sets aren’t super strong, but given this is an ice skating show, I wasn’t expecting it to be. However, what they did have, I thought was rather good. In addition, fog effects are used in this show for a segment that do convey an eerie feeling, which is great. Not a lot of shows are able to do that effectively anymore.

The skaters did a great job too. However, don’t go into this show expecting Elvis Stoijko in terms of the complexity. They also incorporate some acrobatics into this show which is impressive because doing that is hard, let alone starting off on ICE. So bravo to them for that.

The costuming choices I thought were pretty good. Not as detailed as they could’ve been, but given the recent show history, I’ll take what I can get. Pictures of the show included below.

Overall I’d give this show a 7.5/10. It’s a good show, but definitely could be better. Otherwise, no complaints at all.

The only thing I could really ask for from the show is to paint the wings to look like trees, and possibly more props scattered throughout the show. Once the lights hit full brightness it’s very easy to see where the stage stops if you aren’t sitting center, and some segments of the show could even just use little rock props scattered throughout so the stage doesn’t look as bare

They actually HAVE created original show music since then!
- Surf Holiday (SWO)
- The 60th Parade Music

Considering they didn't want to remove the ice, I think this was the best case scenario. I still hope sometime in the future they choose to bring back the theater stage, with a serious act. Katonga really was the sweet spot, a myriad of revolving African fables. Keeps each performance fresh and tied in perfectly theme-wise.

I've gotten the chance to see this show a couple times since last year, I am very impressed! From what I can tell, there is some new props/routines that really make the show better. During the jungle/monkey segment, they incorporate more aerial moments. Really well done.
