With what DeSantis is doing here it wouldn't surprise me that if he had the power to nationalize Disney just on a state level I bet he would as he's that vindictive. Luckily he can't. I'd laugh like hell if he really pisses Disney off and they decide to shut down all of their FL parks and move them to like SC or GA. However this won't happen as it would be too expensive and take to long.

Never say never, though it's highly unlikely.

Of course, politics being what they are - this is only yet another storm to weather, especially if the governor's wishes are overturned in court or gets voted out of office before anything becomes enforceable and the next governor decides to pull the plug...

Huh... State-run companies controlling the means of production...

I feel like I've heard of that before.. 🤣

This is an interesting wrinkle in the dissolving of the RCID:

What does the Reedy Creek Improvement act say about tax rates that can be established?

The board of supervisors are allowed to levy ad valorem taxes to a maximum of 30 mills on the dollar per year on the assessed value of taxable property within the district, or $30 in property tax levied per $1,000 of a property's assessed value. In comparison, governments in Florida cannot exceed 10 mills in taxes, or $10 in property tax levied per $1,000 of a property's assessed value.

This is a critical piece of the ongoing arguments about how outstanding bonds payments owed by Reedy Creek will be paid if passed onto local governments. DeSantis since has said no residents will take on those debts and that Disney will continue to pay for the bond payments, but there have been no further details of how that would work.

Imagine that, almost like Ron let his ego get ahead of him before he fully understood the scope of what all this meant. Any monkey who looked at what it would take to change this situation could agree there is no point in changing things. You go from a certain set of pros and cons to an equal but opposite set of pros and cons after spending insane amounts of money. Such a stupid thing that any of this happened in the first place.

From the way that and another article make it sound is basically Iger agreed to give something (I’m willing to get some type of flat tax payment) in order for this to be given up.

While that makes sense, I won't believe that actually happened until Ron starts broadcasting that everywhere. They will consider it a huge win for them to have Disney paying more of a tax, and if that is never shared info by them, I highly doubt that is actually the arrangement they came to.

Iger is much more polished. He probably got this done discreetly. I think Disney and Florida both wanted a way to reset and move on as is.

Disney is literally one of the biggest tourism draws for Florida. Screw with that, you mess up your whole tourism business (ofc I’m not a politics person, this is just what I think would happen)

Imagine if actual issues were taken care of instead of fucking with Disney.

Not to start a political shit storm, but it is baffling to me that he is considered a front runner to the GOP.
Because the state legislature in Florida is going ham right now. I don't know if you'd call it all "actual issues", but they are currently working through bills that cover pretty much all the major conservative talking points.

And not to get too political but the small government brand and DeSantis is trying to prove what they can do in control.

But the five board members appointed by DeSantis hinted Wednesday at future controversial actions they may take, including prohibiting COVID-19 restrictions at Disney World and recommending the elimination of two cities that were created after the Florida Legislature in 1967 approved the theme park resort's self-governance.

The board also approved hiring the same law firm that advised the governor's office in making changes to the governing district to help interpret the new legislation.
You can also see they are already trying to sow division of “Disney doesn’t protect people” here in this article.
