I don't understand how long it would take to fix all the broken or spent items from years ago.

I think people are being totally unfair to KI on this one. The park never called this a retheme or marketed it as such. They literally posted one Instagram reel about it, and they didn’t even do that until the park’s opening day. (And even then, they didn’t call it a retheme.)

I think this was a cute, minor way to update an attraction in a small way to “surprise and delight” guests. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were going to refresh the signs and billboards along the ride anyway as part of normal maintenance, and they decided this was an opportunity to get creative with that budget and freshen up the ride with some new visuals. If that’s the case (and I strongly suspect it is), I applaud them.

I think anyone criticizing the park here has totally misplaced expectations. One week ago, no one outside the park even knew this refresh was happening. The alternative to this refresh wasn’t a full-fledged retheme. The alternative was just the same old Backlot Stunt Coaster with its anachronistic Paramount-era LA theme. Small, creative changes like this ought to be celebrated, not derided because they’re not “enough.”

I think it's more an awkward half retheme/half refresh that you can't really make much from marketing it without letting people down, yet it's enough you want people to know you did something.
