Seems Ocean Breeze is getting a new slide.  Wonder if this will hurt WCUSA numbers....

I haven't been here in a few years. This would make me want to go back for sure! The tallest in the state?!?!? That would probably hurt WCUSA's numbers.

It won't. Ocean Breeze is a tiny park and about 1/4 the size of WCUSA. Also, WCUSA is the 2nd most visited seasonal water park in the country (Behind Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, TX). A new slide at Ocean Breeze isn't gonna hurt the gate at WCUSA.

RE: 2017 Attraction

But for WC passholders that live in VB/Chesapeake/Norfolk, this could be the deciding factor, especially with Ocean Breeze being way cheaper. I don't know how much people that is but I would think it would be quite a bit.

It won't. This isn't like BGW getting a brand new B&M. A water park installment like this doesn't move the needle like a major roller coaster installation.

I wouldn't argue that one slide will be a deciding factor for pass holders, but it may raise a few eyebrows. I think it would be more of a "Hey, let's go check it out for the afternoon." opposed to "New slide? Let's cancel our Fun Cards/Passes!"

If Ocean Breeze keeps expanding I could see some small regional competition, but nothing on too macro of a scale.

I think a new slide could bring new life to the park. But I doubt it will keep a significant % from going to WCUSA. Frankly we are missing too much data.
1. How many people have season passes just for WCUSA?
2. What percentage of those people are south of the water?
3. Does age of children or adults become a factor?
4. How many would choose WCSA just due to size?

Ocean Breeze can't expand too much as it's landlocked by the Virginia Aquarium, Motor World, Owls Creek Tennis Center and Seatack elementary school. The only way they can significantly grow is if the city sells the company the empty land just west of the park and south of Motor World.

For the record, I'm in favor of getting rid of Ocean Breeze for the aquarium to expand.

WHY?!? If I don't feel like driving an hour to get to WCUSA, I can go to Ocean Breeze! I like Ocean Breeze because of it's convenience for peeps on this side of the water.

The aquarium, already has lots of unused land. In fact all the acerage that was set aside for the 3rd facility, (the dolphin habitat) is still there. Several football fields worth. Also there is a military facility there that the state owns, Camp Pendalten that is mostly vacant. Military Sealift Command used to use it for office space, but they have moved out.

Point is, the Aquarium is not blocked out nor is it anywhere near capacity for land.

Also it has land on the other side of General Booth.

Here's some more information. Looks like we need to change the title of this thread to "2018 Attraction".

RE: Project 2017: Family Raft Ride

I'm going to make a wild guess that it didn't open in 2017? I can't imagine that it would take that long for a slide to get built...

Given that they dont have the same deep pockets that the larger parks and chains have, it is not actually surprising that it is taking them a great deal of time.

RE: Project 2018: Family Raft Ride

It definatley stalled for this season for whatever reason. I was there a few times this year and nothing happened with it. I even asked life guards about it and they were clueless. But, it certainly reads as the same exact ride that they first proposed in the Pilot article last year.
