Its not like Universal has not worked with Sony Pictures before on a ride, MIB is a Sony Pictures movie.

Men in Black was also executive produced by Spielberg. (Same as Back to the Future trilogy, Harry and the Hendersons, An American Tale: Fievel Goes West, The Flintstones, Twister, Casper, Shrek, Transformers, and Jurassic World.... all of which have had some presence in the Universal parks over the years).

Sony's no stranger as a licensee for parks. Ghostbusters, Hotel Transylvania, and Jumanji are also loaned out to other resorts around the world. I don't think it overlaps or interferes with a potential sale to Universal... on the contrary, I think it strengthens the argument, and is the kind of attraction we could expect from a Universal PortAventura resort in the future. Heavy IP use, mixed with the park as it exists today.

Not only a Heavy IP use, but the fact it's a Intamin Multi-Dimensional project. One type that they seem to be going to be copying in Hollywood too assuming if 2024 hits hard for Hollywood Drift (and that it's something that has been used on the most expensive coaster currently in the world with Hagrids).

Perhaps NBCUniversal while they've been talking with PortAventura on the prospects, convinced them to look into it due to the success of Hagrids?
