I was recently hired as an operations intern for this season at BGW. I am from Ohio, and I am looking for a place to live in the BGW area. I know they have housing, but I am trying to avoid that if I can. Since you guys are a lot more familiar with the area than I am, does anyone know of any cheap apartments or rooms for rent? (In the $500 a month range or around that)

I have looked at off campus apartments for William and Mary, which is what the park recommended, but there isn't much else that I can find. I'm hoping you guys can hook me up.

Also I know some places have facebook pages that employees can use to look for roommates. Does Busch Gardens have that?

Thanks in advance!

The International Housing Village is a private housing community owned and operated by Busch Gardens. the actual housing offered is basically a slightly renovated Best Western from a very very long time ago. They offer such things like a basketball court, swimming pools, pool and ping pong tables, community kitchen, and computers with internet. You can also look forward to parties all night long in the summer provided by your favorite Eastern European team members where drinking and partying will be a non-stop adventure.

It is located just minutes away from the park with free shuttle transportation. Now the catch with this is, they typically use the place for students coming from other continents such as Eastern Europe and Asia; however they have been know to allow entertainment contractors, performers, American student interns stay as well. You might want to contact Human Resources and inform them you are taking part in their internship program and your looking for housing considering you currently reside in Ohio. They may be able to provide you with assistance on housing opportunities.

I have already talked to the park about their housing. Like I said in my first post, I'm trying to avoid their housing because I'm in dorms the rest of the year at school. I would prefer to be on my own or with one other roommate.

The main reason I am looking for my own place is because my friends and family are going to visit every once in a while and they aren't going to want to get a hotel everytime, and they wouldn't be able to stay with me if I stayed in the BG housing.

Lots of options towards the NewTown area. Don't forget the Newport News area either.

Do you have your own transportation? The busses and public transport sucks around here. At the price you want it will be hard to find a place. Also a heads up the bridge on Ft Eustis Blvd is going down starting this week. It may cause traffic problems if you live south of that. Look at a map to see where it is. I would look in the Grove section of JCC.
OR...
Those western Euro chicks are hot! PR's suggestion is the way to go. Besides nobody renting a room out for what you ask will want the roommate's friends and family crashing on the couch.
Good luck and welcome to Hampton Roads.

Also did I mention rent at the village is only $11 per day, and you are not necessarily going to stay with four other people. I knew a business intern who had an entire room to himself. It really is such a fun place to go :p Especially for the summer. It will probably be the cheapest route to go if you are really in trouble looking for a place.

I'm not a partier, so I might not have as much fun as you guys think. The hot European women have my interest, though. :)

The one person to a room sounds like it was a fluke.

I'll probably end up at the dorms, but I'm desperately looking elsewhere. Yes, I do have my own transportation.

Thanks for all the help and info so far. Hope to see you guys this summer and make some new friends.

When does your internship start?

Yes typically they keep three to four students to a room; however I have known a few to have a room to themselves or just two people. Don't worry about not being a partier, even if you don't party you would more than likely enjoy some alcoholic beverages, a few cigarettes, and a euro girl in each arm. They don't force you to get up and dance all night :p Oh, but just so you know they do like to keep the party going ALL night long. I have heard of parties that have lasted until 5AM.

I go down for paperwork and training May 27th. First official day is June 1st.

Party Rocker, I also don't drink or smoke, but the basketball court and the women have me convinced I should go with housing! :)

Thanks everyone.

You might be able to find something when the William & Mary students break for summer in early May.

HOOK 'EM!!!

I don't go to Texas. I am a Longhorn fan. I'm a freshman at Ohio State.

How would I go about finding that? Are you talking about off campus apartments, or on campus dorms?

Do people like multiple college teams? I can't get into that. what would happen if they played each other!?

I only like Texas, but obviously all of my money goes to Ohio State so I have a connection there. :)

They did play each other in the Fiesta bowl a few years back, which I went to. I'm a Horns fan all the way for sure.

There could be some off-campus vacancies near the College. Campus dorms are strictly for their students.

A couple of my friends went to school there. I'll have to ask them about housing and get back to you.
