I've seen some messages here that Old Virginia is in need of attention, and I agree. Very little has changed with its attraction lineup, and the most recent one was Dinosaurs Alive in 2012...and it's gone now. So this is what I've been thinking Kings Dominion could do.

As you can see above, there is some space between White Water Canyon and where Dinos used to be. I think that could make for a small sub-section with a flat ride package from Zamperla and a couple of shops. Maybe they could repurpose the Old Dominion Steam Line maintenance shed into a shop or eatery. This section could have an Appalachian mining camp or county fair theme. I'm not sure what the flat rides would be as I'm aiming to see what other flats could be added in other areas, but if I had a list to choose from it would have Air Race, Nebulaz, Gryphon, Endeavor, and Disk'O Coaster. I'm also open to flats coming from other manufacturers too. One thing's for certain though, they'll have to wipe out the go kart track for good access to the new area.

Then they could add a roller coaster on the Dino plot of land. Given the large number of above-track coasters at the park, hopefully this would be an invert or flyer. No, Alpengeist at Busch Gardens shouldn't be an excuse for Kings Dominion to not add an invert, as long as it's not a standard B&M. I would choose from a Vekoma SFC, STC, or flyer, a Gerstlauer Infinity Invert, or even an S&S Axis. Most of these should have potential for a launch layout. I know with Axis the seats can also ride above the track but it still has invert vibes in some areas. If they left a thick tree line between the new coaster and Grizzly, I think there would still be decent room for a good layout while keeping some trees.

With the go karts now closed off, I have been thinking a flat package would work in that area, which would expand the plaza around Grizzly Gulch. So basically shift your concept over to the go-karts, which allows space for a coaster back in the woods too.

Would love a hyper in that plaza. I’ve been thinking a Mack Hyper that travels right along the maintenance path towards the parking lot would look really cool behind the giant Kings Dominion sign as you’re approaching from 95 north. I don’t want to break WWC’s immersion though because you feel like you’re in a different place entirely back there.

If you took out the go karts and Skyflyer, that leaves a ton of space for something pretty substantial and it doesn't sacrifice the forest surrounding Grizzly.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like Copperhead Strike or Abyssus go there. A hyper would be nice and all, but the area is loaded with great hypers. The area needs something a bit more unique.

With the amount of projects going on around the park and the main focus being JX next year the go carts being fenced off is very interesting… and I’m surprised not more people are talking about it, Like is this not crazy? I hope KD has something els major up their sleeve.

Maybe they have something up their sleeve, but I think it’s equally likely that the go karts — being an upcharge attraction — weren’t making money anymore and the park simply decided that boarding them up was better than operating them.

maybe we can have the hyper coaster start from the old dinosaur site & go behind grizzly & twisted timbers with the queue line & exit line taking place in half of the go karts and the remaining lot of the go karts be replaced with one or two flat rides

Put a normalish looking billboard near the interstate easily viewable then run the ride through the middle of it facing toward the road before turning around.

Ok, so this would be such a cool concept for a coaster's first hill. Also, it works as advertising. Just driving down the road, "Oh look at the old billboard OH MY GOD"

I'm telling y'all, Grand Prix Raceway should be replaced by a Zamperla Nebulaz entitled "Virginia Reel" (Bluegrass/folk dance themed) and a sensible entrance to Grizzly.

[Admin Note: I moved this and all subsequent posts on this topic from the Grand Prix disappearing thread to merge two parallel discussions on the same topic.]

Dropping this here too (in case KD's listening...): I'm telling y'all, Grand Prix Raceway should be replaced by a Zamperla Nebulaz entitled "Virginia Reel" (Bluegrass/folk dance themed) and a sensible entrance to Grizzly.

A bluegrass/dance themed ride named Virginia Reel would be such a great fit for Old VA (if themed well) that I wouldn't object to a boring Nebulaz.

No no no. Indoor square-dance themed flat ride inside the Action Theater and call it “Virginia Reel.” Let’s make it happen.

Bonus points since that’s where the park’s outdoor stage show, called “Virginia Reel,” used to be.

I have been thinking for years that reviving the Virginia Reel coaster concept made so much sense for Old Virginia, but an investment in a coaster concept that’s been gone for a generation, coupled with already having Apple Zapple made it seem impossible. Then when Cedar Fair bought Wild Mouse from Zamperla, I thought that exact layout would be a great fit for Kings Dominion. Heck it itself is a traveling model anyway. Overshadowed now by TT2’s issues, Wild Mouse gives a great off-the tracks ride that even enthusiasts were surprised by the forces when it first opened.

I would love to see that come to the action theater plot of land, and possibly enclose it in a building (see Laff Track or Exterminator). That way it could run during Winterfest, and add an additional family coaster to that lineup, especially when KD’s only current indoor coaster is in a section that doesn’t even open. I think the spinning wild mouse would be different enough from Apple Zapple, and add a third off-the-track ride that’s different enough from Tumbili and Reptilian.

That being said, I love the Nebulaz idea too, which also makes perfect sense, and at this point it seems way more likely for KD to get a Vekoma family boomerang. Either way, I think a family coaster is coming sooner rather than later, with a new Snoopy investment, since that’s the direction the chain has been taking. If the spinning wild mouse doesn’t end up in Old Virginia, place it in CAG and remove the smaller arcade and milk bottle carnival game at the entrance (next to Peanuts Showplace). That way it can be next to delirium, take up the remaining empty space left from Shockwave, and reinvent the entrance to CAG.

PS yes I’m biased because I’m a music teacher who teaches the Virginia Reel dance to fourth graders.

I third giving Grizzly a proper entrance. Nubulaz would be fine, but there's one at SFA, so I'm not as keen on that idea
