Colonial Williamsburg said:
The time is September 26, 27 & 28, 1781.  The allied armies are now under the command of General George Washington and the Comte de Rochambeau.  General Cornwallis has entrenched his troops at Yorktown and Williamsburg is now in the hands of the Americans.  Upon the advice of Rochambeau and despite the great stress of worrying over the health, pay and morale of his Continental Army that are stationed outside of New York City, Washington decides to take advantage of Cornwallis’ location and swiftly marches his troops southward.  Witness the extensive preparations of the Continental Army in Williamsburg as they prepare to lay siege on Yorktown.

Washington's Army Descends on Williamsburg 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

For those that like seeing 18th Century Military life, I would recommend this event. There are a few ticketed programs but the majority is free to the public. The Continental "Prelude to Victory" and British "Under the Redcoat" programs were canceled last year with the new President reworking things at CW. The Patriots were invited back this year, but the British were not. We don't know what will happen next year. This isn't the type of event you get to see very often. So, see it while you can.

A couple hundred Revolutionary War military re-enactors will descend on Colonial Williamsburg for a two-day special reenactment of the days leading up to the Siege of Yorktown, the deciding battle of the American Revolution. Full military encampments will be setup showing; the life of the army during this time, distaff and camp demonstrations, troop movement, musket and artillery firing, military field hospital, recruiting, court sessions, behind the scenes of General Washington's planning, the entire battalion demonstrating the Manual of Arms and combat musketry, and dragoons demonstrating cavalry tactics and horsemanship.

Generals Washington and Rochambeau usually reviews and addresses the assembled troops with thier plans to march to Yorktown where Lord Cornwallis and his British forces lie cornered in a trap about to be sprung for the siege of Yorktown, the final battle of the American Revolution.

Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums will march as well as military re-enactor Fife and Drums demonstrating their role in the army.

A big turnout. Even the Visitor's Center parking was said to be full. They also held the "official" LED lighting ceremony on Saturday night.
