Description is a work in progress

Information obtained from rcdb.com:

Montu is an inverted steel roller coaster that opened to the public on May 16, 1996. The Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) custom design has a total length of 3,983 feet, features a 128 foot drop, has seven inversions, and maxes out at 60 mph. The ride lasts approximately 3 minutes. Highest point on the ride is 150 feet. Inversions include 104 ft tall Loop, 60 ft tall Loop, Immelmann, Zero-G Roll, Batwing and Corkscrew. Max g-force is 3.8.

There are three trains, each with 8 rows seating 4 across (32 per train). Running at capacity, Montu can handle just over 1700 riders per hour.

According to rcdb, live crocodiles lived in the area below the turn out of the station until they were later relocated.

At the time it opened, Montu was the longest and tallest inverted coaster in the world. [1]

The park promoted the ride in 1998 as "the Southeast’s largest and fastest inverted roller coaster. The crown jewel of the park’s seven-acre Egypt themed area, Montu’s riders soar through four first-of-a-kind elements, seven inversions and nearly 4,000 feet of track at speeds exceeding 60 miles per hour." It's hard for me to choose between Montu or Alpengeist. If you are only talking about the ride itself, not the experience Montu wins in my book. As far as the ride itself, I prefer the first drop on Alpengeist, but the Batwing is much smoother than the Cobra-Roll on Alpengeist. I could go on debating about the two for hours, because I love both parks as if they were my children (aka: no favoritism). However, if I was blindfolded, Montu would win any day by a hair.

Cool fact: My sister-in-law worked on this ride in its early year. She remember the crocodiles that used to be there, and said she thought that made climbing the lift hill a little creepy. Sadly, they were eventually moved because of unruly guests.

I went to BGT back when I was really, really young, like early 2000s. I don't remember a lot about the park except I do recall how awesome this coaster is. I also remember the crocodiles!

I rode Montu last August when my mom took my little sister and me to Florida for a few days. I SLIGHTLY prefer Montu over Alpengeist...something about the pacing, and it feels more forceful/intense than Alpengeist. I think it's BECAUSE Montu is smaller rather than 'even though' it's smaller. It's also a bit smoother imo.

I wanted to get little sister's opinion since Alpengeist is her favorite at BGW (she hasn't ridden Griffon, Tempesto, or InvadR though, and won't ride Apollo's Chariot anymore since I took her on it in the back row...), but she wouldn't ride Montu for whatever reason even though she knew it was an invert like Alpengeist.

^I certainly don't think Tempesto is all that great (SO short, the line stacks up, kind of dumb theme in my opinion), but I wanted her to try it just once.:p

I still think if BGW was going to have Tempesto, it should have been themed after a storm and named Tempest...and not painted obnoxiously! The actual name always reminds me of pesto sauce or something.

That is the number one gag and meme concerning this coaster trust me and coaster studios in particular ripped this coaster a new one during their parody segment.

Heads up to anyone heading down to Tampa. Montu is currently closed, as it is getting repainted. Thankfully it looks like it will be retaining its current colors. My only question is why they couldn't wait to start the repainting project until after Iron Gwazi opens...

January and February are the slowest months for SEAS to do annual maintenance on their major rides so this is the time when they will be doing this kind of work. As far as repainting after Iron Gwazi opens that wouldn't work because that's one of the busiest times of the year for the park as spring break starts in March for Florida students so they're gonna need this ride open by then to eat some of the crowds.

but that looks like yellow supports. I hate Alp and have mixed feelings on kraken, but this looks possibly promising.

but that looks like yellow supports.

Yup those supports are darker than the original color which was a light tan. I'm liking this new yellow/gold. It fits the theming better as Montu the God has been depicted wearing a headdress with gold feathers to go along with the dark/navy blue falcon head (which is the coaster's track color).

Does anyone know why Montu has been closed? Apparently it's been closed for a few weeks now. I asked on a BGT facebook page and basically no one knew. Going next weekend and really hope it's open

Something about a wheel recall after The Flying Dinosaur incident in Japan was communicated to park employees, requiring replacement of the wheels for Montu. Supposedly Montu and The Flying Dinosaur use the same exact type of wheels and they needed to be replaced due to that. However, I personally haven't noticed any other B&Ms down lately for a similar reason so i don't know for sure.

It's been like a week lol.

It should be... possibly opening today.
