I figured I'd go ahead and make a thread for the monorail, pictures of it are pretty rare, the only two I've seen have been introduced to me by Nora and I'm including them in this post.

If you should come across a picture, get it in here asap.

What was the monorail, exactly?

WHAT?!?!?!:exclamation:

It was magical, it took us to the land of beer. I was only a kid when it was around, i remember getting my hand stamped and taking a ride over to the brewery. The smells were cool and my parents got fresh beer. Then i turned 21 after they closed it. Then I didn't do the beer school thing because I was waiting for my GF to turn 21. Then she did, and guess what, they closed that too. :(

How come Busch is taking out all the good rides?
Is this the worst time ever for Busch?
What will Busch close next?
Will Busch's attendance fall lower than Kings Dominion's?
Why are the BBW footers still there?
I need a sandwich will all this drama!
I NEED TO KNOW!

1. They aren't [they had to take out what they did- they didn't really do it by choice].
2. No, that would be when the first person took a ride on DF.
3. Hopefully not anything for a while.
4. No.
5. Ask Nora. ;)
6. Check your fridge.
7. Done.

You are tooooo funny Swiftman. #2 answer made me laugh- seriously. :D

By the way ~ call me addicted to You Tube, but when your (Pandorazboxx) said "It was magical," all I could think of was "a magincal leoplueradon
Charlie" That crazy cartoon has been in my head all day! When I was in Germany and I heard that same Polka song, I kept singing the Candy Mountain song... grrr.

I do miss the Monorail in it's calm scripted announcer and the quiet well-air-conditioned ride. I thought the landscape around the Monorail was beautiful too; however, the area is being used well and though I miss free beer and cheap pizza, I do not miss smelling Hops upon entry to the Brewery.

Sorry you missed the Brewery though, it was very quiet, low crowds and yes... and yes, two cold, wonderful free beers.

I've noticed a funky smell periodically now. I first noticed it a Christmas Town and though it has something to do with "smells of the season" or something. But I could smell it again this week. An employee told me it was coming from the Brewery, but I never noticed it once during the season last year. Anyone else notice it?

BTW, when did they close the monorail?

You can sometimes smell the brewery, but I like it, I don't think it's a bad smell. I don't recall the specific year the monorail closed, but I know that after it did the free beer tastings were moved into the park.

It would have been nice if they kept the monorail even if they did cot continue doing the free beer samples.

donot know how the "trips" to the brewery would go today with busch now owned by the new company and not being apart of the brewery operation.

I thought the smell was some kind of awful during Christmas Town. We were trying to decide if it was something from the brewery or some kind of mechanical exhaust. I've smelled it before but never as bad as it was at CT. Is it really a hops smell? Fermentation? Or some kind of waste by product?

And does anybody know the year the monorail closed?

The smell you were smelling was in fact the brewery. Usually the wind blows the opposite way, but on occasion, it will whiff into the park to create that "special aroma".

As for the year the monorail closed, it was taken out of commission in 1987*(see note below).

[EDIT]
*This information is incorrect. Turn to Page 2 for the correct information.

It would've been a great thing to have, but I don't think the price of a modern monorail system was cost effective, or necessary enough that Busch would spend to maintain it.

no way man, I remember taking that monorail to the brewery and getting a stamp on my hand and everything. No way that monorail closed in 1987. maybe 97. but not 87. btw I was born in 86.

Are there any small parts of it left anywhere, or is the whole ride completely torn down?

I may be mistaken, but I believe I've seen the actual rail outside the tree line at the bus/employee entrance. It could be something else, or it could be a figment of my imagination.

well as someone who has gone through that entrance a 100+ times i've never seen what you're talking about
