well, since wdwnt is the one who reported the great movie ride getting the axe which is true, I wonder if they win this one (I wouldn't be surprised if they move tranformers to it, I mean, retheme the current one to tmnt and I be fine with it),

and for disney getting marvel for florida, I wonder if they build a park for it just like how dubailand was gonna get one

Toon Lagoon is probably up next too, but I think a simple refresh of that area would be just fine. New bright paint, some new effects maybe for the rides. Just a fun area that I think has aged well, even with the dated IP’s.

I do find it hard to see them shifting away from Marvel though. Maybe it ends up being an area refresh with a new ride down the line? Modernise things a bit maybe?

Spiderman and Hulk are still fantastic rides. I’d be really devastated to see those go. The Drop Tower can go though. There is a large theatre near Spiderman too if memory serves me right. New ride location?

I feel like this rumor pops up every few years. I’ll believe it when I see it, especially since the Hulk renovations weren’t that long ago.

Lost Continent 100% needs to be the next land to get an update/retheme, considering that it has zero attractions left. (Note: I absolutely love the vibes of this area. It just needs a draw.)

I share these sentiments 100% and adore the whole Mythos/Lost Continent vibe. I hope they keep the area and just refresh it and make it relevant again as it once was. I agree that it should be the next thing refreshed. I think it would be a ton easier than a whole Marvel Island revamp too. And to honest, I don’t think Marvel Island needs it. At least not yet.

Some kind of Roller Coaster/Dark Ride using the theming of Lost Continent could really be something special.

if lost continent do get replace, I can see either Zelda like its rumored or maybe another ip (wicked perhaps?, they can easy retheme the empty theater to a wicked theater and replace the old poseidon fury attraction with a land of oz dark ride), I wonder if they have to move mythos to citywalk (which would makes sense, maybe replace part of hollywood rip ride rockit if that got removed)

A tad unrelated, but do we think they'd ultimately look at rebuilding Hulk (again?) when it turns 15 again? Supposedly over the last year, the guest experience with that ride has gotten somewhat worse then prior.

wicked perhaps?
Here’s the issue.

Islands of Adventure’s lore is that the theme of the park, or the “islands” are themed to books.

Starting with Super Hero Island, this is obviously themed to the Marvel Comics. Then Toon Lagoon is based on comic strips. Skull Island: Reign of Kong is based on the King Kong books, Jurassic Park/World were books before their movies, and Harry Potter is self explanatory. The Lost Continent is interesting, as it is based on ancient myths and legends—split up into 2 parts (formerly 3, with that third being rethemed into Potter.), one being Sinbad’s Bazaar (an ancient Arabian marketplace) and Lost City (a combination of Atlantis and Grecian cities). These are less book based but still really cool. And then Suess Landing is also self explanatory.

All of the attractions built in the park are based on books at their core. A lot of those books have had movie adaptations—notably Harry Potter, Jurassic Park/World, King Kong, and Marvel Comics—which when these rides are built, we see more similarities to the movies than the books, as that’s what most people are familiar with.

As for Wicked, it is book based, but VERY loosely—it’s an adaptation of “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” which in itself is based on the original “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. Also, given the current land there, I think Wicked would be very out of place. It would make more sense in the Studios side.

Now regarding a Super Hero Island replacement, as long as it’s book based, and doesn’t feel too drastic a change, I’ll take it. So keep Pokémon FAR, FAR AWAY from that park.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it more about different written/drawn media formats/genres? Studios is about moving pictures, but Islands is about static, paper media—that was always my understanding. Comic Books (Marvel), Comic Strips (Toon Lagoon), Action/Adventure Books (Jurassic/Kong), Fantasy Books (Lost Continent/Potter), Children's Books (Seuss).

I loved the original concept and would love to see it stay, but realistically, I think the "vibe" of IOA will be preserved, not the retro paper media theme. I'm of the opinion that a Nintendo franchise land is definitely coming for Islands which would not fit with the park's original concept at all. I'm fine with that, as long as it passes the vibes check. Something like Mushroom Kingdom wouldn't, but something more gritty, more "lived in," rougher around the edges, etc. (like Zelda) feels right to me.

All that being said, I doubt Nintendo is coming to Marvel Super Hero Island.

I hope this isn't true, but If a reskin did happen, i'd keep Pokemon to USF and retheme marvel superhero island to the land of Oz, taking inspiration from the success of wicked as well as the original books. It would mostly be emerald city, but the hulk would either become a flying monkeys/defying gravity coaster or a emerald city express attraction. I could also see a retheme of dr doom, but with added showscenes and perhaps enclosing it, theming it to defying gravity.

Can't see Universal doing this until at least Wicked 6: Six Wicked Six Furious.

I think it will be really telling how Disney/Universal handle to the Simpsons exit from Universal soon. Plus I think Universal enjoys keeping Marvel away from Disney on the East Coast.

Personally i see wicked working more as an expansion plot in Epic Universe, maybe between wizarding world and dragons. But if they want IOA to be less books and more storytelling, they could say musicals count as a form of storytelling. Goodness knows (ha… wicked puns) they could put the toon lagoon theater space to work with a condensed 30 minute retelling of wicked.

I think IOA knows that comic book properties are popular and may try again with DC, especially since there’s a whole new cinematic universe starting up.

As far as Nintendo in IOA I think Zelda in the lost continent is much more likely and they’ll do like HP. One property per park but make one in EVERY park. It’s too good for sales.

Which if they do Zelda it almost fits into the original IOA theme with it being based around storytelling. You’d have all the various forms of storytelling: Children’s stories, books, film, video games, comics, and cartoons (assuming they keep toon lagoon or change to SpongeBob).

I think marvel going away just depends on if the merch isn’t lucrative enough for universal compared to other properties. It’s possible that Disney could be getting cuts of the merch as owners of the overall brand.

Other still going strong properties without something that could have an area:
Shrek
Kung Fu Panda
Trolls
He Man
She Ra

And the thought that New Six Flags may bail on the the WB/DC licensing as a cost cutting measure.

Plus WB would be happy to because Universal overachieved with the Potterverse in the parks

I noticed during my trip last month how the inside queue for Dr. Dooms Freefall had a green/pink motif and the Hulk, well it’s definitely green. So I could see a Wicked retheme going there even though I would prefer something Manga/Anime as a closer theme to comic books
