Man Who Climbed Knott's Berry Farm's Supreme Scream Tower Detained By Police

On Saturday, a man climbed some 300 feet up the Knott's Berry Farm Supreme Scream ride and, for a time, refused to come down.

Hope everyone's ok, but that's some fine investigative reporting there - sounds like the reporter was paraphrasing from a 3rd hand account; the situation beyond the basics of a guy climbed a park ride is quite murky.

Did the guy refuse to come down as the headline says, or did he just stay up there on his own accord since the police had no contact until he was much closer to the ground like the article says?

Is he actually believed to have mental health issues (besides the obvious holy crap that's a tall off-limits tower to climb), or is it standard procedure to get anyone who does this kind of stunt to a hospital for evaluation and is quite possibly under police custody while this is happening?

Update: he apparently came down on his own and was taken to the hospital.
