I started going to BGW when I was 5 years old and have (proudly) worn a fanny pack since that day. 😏😎
I’ve never once been asked to remove it for a ride at BGW until this year. They did not allow me to wear it on Finnegan’s. Had to put it in the cubbie. YMMV.

This. As someone who goes to the park quite frequently the only way to do it is with a fanny pack. You save so much money... Not an issue at almost every other park I've been to (in-station cubbys)

I always carry my backpack everywhere with me, and BGW's all day locker is an incredible value to me.

Glad to see there is other fanny pack gang members on the forum.

Unenligthened users throw thousands, possibly millions of dollars away on lockers every second of each visit just so they can secure their belongings away for a short time. Those who a true enlightened enthusiast dawn their fanny packs to fully maximize their time and safely keep their belongings on them throughout the day out of respect for the parks policies. Also, they look sick.

That's great and all but:

Sunscreen, hat, change of clothes, extra socks and underwear, rain poncho, aloe vera, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, refillable cup, extra battery packs, extra deodorant, snap cool towel, shamy towel, and flip flops don't fit in a fanny pack.

I mean I could really question the need for all those things since over time I've tended to go as minimalistic as possible, but I'm also not you and there's a reason the boy scout motto is be prepared...

I'd agree that a backpack in that context would be far more useful than a fanny pack.

Curious if a larger family would consider using a backpacking bag instead the usual gigantic mom-bag, potentially with accompanying smaller items/bags also carried?

I can justify all of it:
Sunscreen - I'm a pasty MFer and it needs to be reapplied every so often
hat - I have two, a ball cap and an Aussie hat. As a golf pro I've heard too many skin cancer stores and can't be too sure
change of clothes - What if you ride a water ride and the dryers are broken. I've had a kid spill stuff on me once.
extra socks and underwear - See above, also accidents happen even to adults
rain poncho - don't want to get caught in the rain and be wet and cold for the ride home
aloe vera - what if you get burnt while there
hand lotion - my hands get dry after washing them
hand sanitizer - doesn't need explained anymore, but what if soap was out in a bathroom
refillable cup - set explanatory
extra battery packs - Often on my phone, and heat + usage drains the battery
extra deodorant - if you need a freshen up, need to change clothes, or if you are particularly sweaty (like I get)
snap cool towel - All the indoor rides being closed and limited indoor cool off spots make this a requirement
shamy towel - Ride a water ride and get soaked and want to dry off, rains and want to dry off, or want to wipe the sweat off
flip flops. If your shoes get soaked

Are the dryers ever “working”? If it isnt warm enough to justify letting my clothes air dry on my back, it isnt worth a water ride to me. I never heard good things about those family dryers.

Not when I’ve been there. I really hate being wet when I’m wearing my clothes so that’s the reasoning for the change of clothes.

Oh yeah, definitely get that. I’ve spent enough of my life in wet clothes involuntarily to the point it doesnt really bother me.

I am not sure if they are or not at the moment but they are doing a regular year.

I have used them one time in my life when I went with a friend and their young child who insisted on doing the water rides even though it was a tad cold and we had bad luck and were soaked. They actually worked better then I expected and after the one $5 (several years ago so maybe more now) cycle they has us dry enough for it to be bearable the rest of the day with it only mid 50s.

Challenge Accepted.

I’m half joking. Because I bring most of those things, too, but just keep them in the car. There’s a 90% chance we won’t need some of those things, but we’ll just walk back to the car if that 10% chance occurs.

Plus, you can’t fit it all in one of those stupid fashion fanny packs. You gotta get a nice BIG one to fit all that junk in the trunk.

So big it’s called a backpack ;)

I like having access to all that stuff when and if you need it. That scene in season 3 of Gilmore Girls when Lorelai is telling Rory to “pack the extra bathing suit” with they go to visit Yale in the late fall was my childhood. So a big part of it is just habit to have it all. Because you’ll never use it 99.9% of the time but you’ll be thankful that 0.1% you did.

Inside me are two wolves...

I am both fannypack gang, and locker gang.

We usually end up buying merch or wine, so the locker always comes in handy. Ever since we were kicked out of an hour wait in line at Invadr with my fannypack, I've had no trouble renting an all day locker.

I have always carried my ParkPurse. It contains everything one might need from bandaids to safety pins to sunscreen to extra socks. For me, getting a locker is worth being able to carry my magical bag with me.

I got to add bandaids and safety pins to my Go Bag!

Although I think something dangerous is out there.....if you are in the park and need anything, you and I are going to be mobbed by Team Fanny Pack now that they know we carry all this stuff with us.

All I need is my fanny pack, some sandals with straps, and maybe some sunglasses and it’s gonna be a good day.
