I don't have some huge, illustrious story to share for this post, but, you know, that's a good thing. KDFans relationship with Kings Dominion has been pretty smooth sailing for the last couple years.

Anyway, I'm making this thread now to announce that KDFans will be at Kings Dominon tomorrow for Delirium's media day! Look forward to live coverage on KDFans's Twitter & Instagram accounts! As always, any coverage highlights and long-form retrospectives will be posted to KDFans's Facebook page in the days to come.

Moving forward this thread will be dedicated to keeping everyone updated on KDFans's relationship with Kings Dominion.

How has the park handled the fact that KDFans leaked their 2021 roller coaster? Are they mad or glad to have some additional publicity?

Unknown. We've always had far less active communication with KD than with BGW. We were going to inquire about a construction tour to share the progress on the waterpark projects and Grizzly's retracking... and then COVID-19 happened. On the other side of this we'll reach back out.

Edit: Also, does KDFans have any sort of media relationship with KD?

Nope, we haven't for a long while now. Now that the chain has rolled out their super draconian enthusiast media rules, I strongly doubt we ever will again. It would take some daring marketing leadership at KD to go against the grain and buck the chain's rules to let us in. Super unlikely in my estimation.

Shame too. There is so much content of value that gets ignored completely at KD. The fact of the matter is that the local fan base for KD isn't anywhere near as large/passionate/active/dedicated as the BGW fans are—which makes all but the most flashy content tough to justify from a reporting standpoint. KD could change that but, alas...

And yes, per the official, chainwide rules, they prohibit construction photos, any and all "inside information," public records reporting on new attractions/events/etc, anything they rule to be "misinformation," or anything that "portrays [...] any Six Flags park in an inappropriate manner"—a comically broad prohibition that puts into writing, basically, "you can't say anything we don't like—ever—or you're out." It is utterly and completely impossible to do, you know, any actual journalism or, frankly, even present remotely independent/honest reviews/opinions under the rules above.

We will never comply with the guidelines laid out above and would be upfront with Kings Dominion and/or any other Six Flags park about that fact. We're happy to engage however and wherever our readers' interests align with the park's but yeah, the rules above are comically untenable and in the event that an opportunity for collaboration did arise, we would simply ignore the rules and take any punishments that came.

BTW SF. I have a price to only ever say nice things. It’s $150,000 a year so I can quit my job and do a travel blog on your parks alone.

Unfortunately, there are a hoard of thoosies who are more than happy to bend over backwards and do the work for free exactly as Six Flags dictates. I'd argue that these people likely don't have the faith of their audiences to present actual, honest takes, but I think Six Flags has made it crystal clear that they're actively antagonistic to facilitating that. I hope that they're wrong and credibility still matters but 🤷‍♂️, they're the experts.

If you’re gonna establish all these insane rules, at least spell your park’s name correctly. FFS.

Hey now don’t take it out on the poor new marketing intern some HQ person delegated the task to rather than doing it themselves. /s

Let's not forget this is same company that blocked the Sandusky Register from attending the CP's media day presumably because they reported on Top Thrill and the Sexual Assault issue. I can only say Presumably because they refuse to explain why they blocked the city's biggest print media from attending a media event.

I just saw that Amusement Source, which provides good coverage of the Texas parks, was denied entry to SFOT for having a camera.

Six Flags current camera policy is pretty strict— i can’t find it but they at one point had a policy about cameras with interchangeable lenses (SLRs) not being allowed.

Here’s their current policy on the website:
