This thread is here for a couple reasons, the first is because the other HOS thread has become enormous, and finding information can be a bit of a hassle, and the second, to separate speculation from actual experiences.

That said, this thread is here to discuss your thoughts on the actual experiences at the event.

And with that I'll be checking this again next week since I wont make it this weekend. Have fun everybody.

I'm here taking some pics this morning and, thus far, I have to say I'm impressed at the quality of theming. I'll be posting pictures when I get home, but you can see some pics on Twitter already.

Here are a few pictures from the park this morning:

Took my 4 year old today, who is a show-junkie ,to try to check out the shows. Here are my thoughts:

Monster Stomp: Same show as last year, but they added a really cool little pre-show with the drummers. The theater was remade back to the same set as last year. The show itself was not as good as last year. Seemed to be some first day sound issues. Also, the two leads...sigh...let's just say I don't think that was their particular genre of music. Little closer to screaming than singing. The dancing was awkward as well. Like I said, possibly first day kinks (but most of the cast was the same from last year, so...:dodgy:)

Frankenrock: Completely different show. Last year's show, while probably not popular with the crowd on this board, was very family friendly. My kids loved it. This year, holy crap. Look like Dancing with Myself video rejects, screeching the most god awful version of 80's cover tunes. Everything about it was horrible: the costuming, the music, the singing, the "comedic" interplay. Wow. My 4 year old said "Daddy, I don't want to watch this anymore." So we left. By far the absolute worst thing I've ever seen at BGW.

Just got back, it was really good, I'll put a detailed trip report up in the next couple days. But I wanted everyone to know that you can see the Howl-O-Scream webcam at hos.bgwfans.com or you can go on the park's site.

did they redo Pompeii? I heard a rumor about it, and I just wanted to know so that I didn't have to pay to get into the park first. Thanks!

No, Pompeii has not been redone.

I have to agree with Shafor about the shows. For Monster Stomp, the female singer was having trouble remembering the words and the dancing was off. That should get better as they go. The show is still very enjoyable. As for Franken Rock, the video screens are cool but the rest is not very good at all. The singing is way off, they have the sound so low for the band you can't really tell how they are. What were they thinking with the costumes and makeup? They have been struggling with the show here since Fiends in the Festhaus. The new Jack show is ok, all very recent music and the performers are only on the stage, no crowd interaction.

We went through Catacombs, Bitten, Hunted, and Harvest Hollow. All were very well decorated with lots of scares. Harvest Hollow is much longer than before it was still partially light when we did it, but should be great in the dark. The park itself looks great, love all the new theming and scare tactics, oh and the monster cake (purple cake, green frosting) is great!

We go every Friday, so hopefully with a few more shows under their belts the performances will improve.

My opinion is that Catacombs remains the best house, as was the case last year (again, in my opinion). I found that going through while it's still light out was better than at night, since you can't see anything when you go in during the day. It's a bit longer, and they seem to have a decent plan to curb the grouping up and stopping in the maze by splitting groups up.

As far as the shows, I only saw Monster Stomp. I thought it was better last year, but there's still plenty of time for improvement.

Theming overall was done really well in most areas of the park. Oktoberfest was pretty much left as it is during the regular season. New France was the show stealer. The chainsaws are really effective. England probably has the best executed story, but isn't really scary.

Overall, I rate it a fair amount higher than last year's HOS.

I thought that Catacombs was the best maze. Cursed was actually much better this year.. and i thouhgt that harvest hollow was better last year. Bitten was exactly the same. And hunted was a lilttle bit better. And pompeii was exactly the same.
