So I was looking over my past posts and found an old bare-bones idea for a maze I came up with way back in 2010. Jesus that was three years ago – where did the time go!? Anyway, it was the idea I had for a maze before Catacombs was constructed (or after, my memory is a bit hazy), and I’ve extrapolated on it a bit
“Reign of Terror”
The Royal Palace Theatre backstage corridors are transformed into the dark, musky alleyways of Paris, circa 1792. This year, rather that September, involved the most beheadings of the entire Reign of Terror during which the peasants and middle-class rebelled against the Aristocrats, ousting them for alleged “crimes,” sending them to be tried before the Committee on Public Safety, and subsequently beheaded by “Madame Le Guillotine.” The French Lower Class considered the guillotine to be a sinister yet just being, giving “her” that name.
I feel as if this is screaming for maze. The garden bed where Senor Snail currently resides could be transformed into the city gates where the guillotine’s usually resided. Two aristocrats could be lined up waiting for their turn at the guillotine and one or two peasants could be screaming at you in line and then ushering you into the city (the maze itself). Within the maze tall “stone” walls close in on the alleyways as you try to escape from the city and from the perils, as the Committee has chosen you as Madame Le Guillotine’s next victim. The scare actors within could be dressed as raggedy old lower-class “citoyennes” as they were called and constantly be jumping out and tormenting you. The final corridor before you exit back into Aquitaine could involve you walking under a guillotine and back out into the open.
I feel as if décor-wise the maze could be the bare-minimum. I hope they still have the old storefronts from Wicked Woods (although they would have to be hacked down to size) but overall the layout and detailing I feel wouldn’t be too costly. In addition, Aquitaine almost becomes a part of the maze as the continuation of the city.
Any thoughts or critiques?
