So I was at the park this past weekend and someone asked me (it was her first time) why part of France is themed like the old west. I honestly had no clue. Is there a history behind this? That area of the park certainly sticks out from the rest.

It's actually "New France" which represents Canada when it was being colonized by France.

Is this actually why they themed it that way or did they mess up theming and later have gone back to try and justify it?

Theyve done a good job of recreating an early logger style colony but i dont get how it looks like the old west...I mean bits and peices yeah but there to small to notice.

I've never thought it looked like the west in anyway. For one it's in a forest

Haha, log style colony works. I just said "old west" since that is what the person that asked me said. My basic question is why they chose that theming? It just seems out of place when you think of the stereotypical "Europe". I guess I don't think "Baby back ribs" when I think of France.

Well when the park was built in 1975, it was known as the Old Country, so I guess it's a looser term and thus New France worked its way in.

I'm guessing that they wanted an area of the park to show off Williamsburg's natural landscape and New France was the best fit they could find. (Remember, the Wildlife Reserve is relatively new.)

Well i mean it fits in perfectly in my opinion, and they did a great job making it look like an early logging colony.

I guess I understand why people would be confused when every other country in BGW has an easily recognizable theme. They should convert it to Switzerland :)

Well i think the general public would get germany and switzerland confused possibly, and it would work good because alpengeist would be a great switzerland coaster.

Thats the problem im thinking of...most would confuse the yodeling for germanic origins...i would love to see a switzerland theme but they would have to retheme le scoot.

I've never given any thought to the fact that it didn't fit because it's always been my favorite area of the park. I enjoyed it more and spent more time there when they had shows at the Canadian Palladium, but still has a "cool" feel on a hot day.

Yeah, and they finally have a ride in that area other than the train. ( Griffon is in france, Alpengeist is in germany.)
